Phone turning itself off and on. Continuous never-ending cycle.

My phone is acting really strange. It turns itself off and then on again and again in this cycle as if the power button is always being pressed.

I can sometimes get into my recovery (CWM) but when I try to go deeper into the menu. I get kicked back to the main screen as if im pressing the power button to go "back" until the phone gets completely turned off again.

I noticed something too. When I pull out the battery and put it back on. The phone turns itself on without me even pressing the power button. Then the cycle continues again.

Very frustrating.

Could this be software, ROM, recovery, partition related or does this sound something hardware related?

What's the device?

What ROM are you using?

Have you done any custom repartitioning?

It could be hardware related, but it could easily be something software related as well.

Defo sounds like a sticky button bro. Try putting the hoover nozzel against it to suck out the crap and maybe avoid taking it apart
I did try to slide a folded piece of paper around the power button. Got some grime. The button feels fine though. Still clicky and feels like normal.

It's an old Samsung Galaxy W running CyanogenMod 10.2. Not custom partitions.

If it does this both with a normal boot and recovery, I'd say it's a the power button most likely. Can you get it into fastboot? If so, does it still restart?
Normal boot and trying to boot into recovery are both wonky.
How do i do a fastboot? Havent tried this method yet.

If it works like all the other Samsung Phones, you can power the phone off, then hold the volume down, home button and press power until it boots into download mode. (There is no fastboot on samsung phones. Samsung will accept adb commands in odin/download mode.)

Oh ODIN mode.
I tried it now. Held down power, volume down and home. I got to the warning prompt screen. Pressed volume up to continue. Got to the ODIN mode screen then after a second or two, poof. Turned itself off again and back to the cycle. :(

Okay then, sounds like the power switch is shorted.
