Maybe that's why I don't like Wally World. I'm really boycotting them for animal issues when they first opened. They sold fish, and knew nothing about them. Tanks had ich, you name it.

Kroger isn't just the midwest. Out here it's King Soopers, and City Market. City Market more prevalent in smaller towns. They also have Loaf n Jug convenience stores.

The City Market in Moab has the best salad bar for a supermarket going.

Really?! That article is kinda dumb. Shopping where I live is done by cost and location, and is certainly not an indicator of how one votes. Location is one of the biggest factors. People don't want to have to drive across town to do their grocery shopping. Publix knows this which is why there is 13 of them in the county I live in (way more than any other). compared to just two Winn Dixie and the two Walmart stores that sell groceries.

Well for me, it's all about location and convenience when it comes to grocery shopping. And there's a Walmart only about a mile from my apartment. I may not condone all of their practices; my choices are limited having to rely on public transit to get around.

The same for me. I have a vehicle, but I still go to the closest grocery store to me which is only a few miles away. When I lived in town I shopped at the Publix that was only about 4 blocks away.

In metropolitan UK, where you generally have a choice, the supermarkets have definite class - and therefore, most likely, voting - associations. Marketing companies have the ABC analysis, but it basically boils down to:

Trader Joes is way more than organic food. They're big on prepared foods, mostly frozen, cheap cheese, produce and beer and wine. They definitely have a niche market, but I like them.
As for me, I generally just go to Giant since it's convenient. Whole Foods if I have to for something.
Wal-Mart just opened their first two stores in DC a couple weeks ago. I will not be visiting them.

I think most ordinary people who are just trying to get by on a paycheck don't think about these things when they shop. Certain values are for those who have the time and can afford them.

It does pay if you use generic products. I use King Soopers since they have quite a few. KS will send you coupons for their products. I don't clip others - mostly for stuff I won't use anyway. I don't do Groupon, it's in the host file. I'm not buying a product just because it's 50% off. If the store has a national brand on sale instore cheaper than house brand, I will buy it while it's cheaper. Price goes up, back to generic. My daughter liked Safeway as a lot of their products were PETA approved. I am not brand loyal.

When I need groceries, I don't really care where they come from or what that company may be like. I care about price and convenience - and at less than a mile away, Walmart wins. Sure, I could drive a few miles to shop at a Publix instead (a store which I truly prefer, but is less price-friendly and less convenient) - but then I'm just supporting the evil oil companies instead.

I work at Walmart. No I don't condone many of their practices, but after being there almost 14 years no one else will start me out making as much as I do at Walmart. Not that I make a lot, I'm still fairly poor lol. However, this is where I seem to be stuck, that's what dropping out of college can do to you. Although I did have to drop out due to conditions beyond my control and can't go back for the same reasons.

I shop there because of the convenience and low prices including my 10% discount. When they are out of stock, which is often, I head across thee street to Winn-Dixie.
