Metro PCs Tether nexus 5

I am tempted to know as well.. On my previous Galaxy S3 (CDMA).. I would tether on FoxFi...all the time... Not crazy speeds or anything .. But I have had METROPCS for over a year and never .. Ever...had I purchased the hotspot add on for 10 dollars... Curious if I could also do it on the nexus... Haven't installed FoxFi on my nexus yet cause I am waiting for 4.4.2...still....

That would depend on the browser you are using.. User agent is like an identifier for what type of browser and operating system you are in.. You will have to Google the term user agent ... To get started.. Its not too complicated.. But too much for me to explain.. In short the purpose is to confuse the hotspot into thinking that the internet is being shared with other mobile devices .. Or just about anything.. To hide what type of computer you are really using so that the internet works.. Its really cool and scary concept.. Either way I use user agent switcher for chrome and make it think it's IE9 or whatever ...

the only good thing about having nexus 5 on metro is that you do not need to root your phone and apply settings.db hack with user agent switcher as you have to do for all other carriers. even though we use t-mobile towers but as our signal passes through fast.metropcs.com apn ...voila!!
i could not believe it myself at first! there is a catch of using the switcher, it makes your browser act as a mobile browser or like a google/bing/safari bot. so you do not get full functionality of a web page has to offer.
there is a data speed shaping on metro if you use more than 1 GB data a day (at least for me). speed resumes as normal next day.

What user agent switcher do you download?

i personally use firefox browser. i believe firefox has an extension (add-on) for it even though i do not use it. i actually edited the about:config and added a string for google bot. it works on most websites extremely well. it is permanent (meaning even if you close the browser or shut down the computer it is still there. also it work on all new tabs, pop-ups that generates by you clicking something, new windows etc. so you never have to set it again. if you ever want to get rid of it, you have the option to reset it.
catch is facebook, yahoo mail, xda-forums makes it extremely difficult as they see you as a google bot. androidforums has no problem with it.
internet explorer has a built-in switcher. you launch a window and see metro hotspot upsale page. you hit F12 button>it opens a dev window at the bottom>click tools>useragent switcher> change from default to something else. close the dev window>type the web address at the address bar and done.
catch is any new window, pop-ups will show metro upsale page. very annoying. also if you close the window and re-launch, gotta do it again.

i hope this is ok to post a link here
