Desire niggles

Have had my excellent Desire for nearly a week and I love it! However I have found a few niggles with it that I was hoping someone might have an answer for?!

  • The internet homepage will not set to the page I choose - it always returns to the last open page.
  • I want the option to set fortnightly reccuring events on the calendar but the stock calendar doesn't have it - has anyone come across a better calendar app?
  • I would also like to have 'no reminder' available as the default reminder time in the calendar settings, rather than the stock minimum of 5 minutes.
  • I have set the calendar to open on 'day view' in the settings but this doesn't happen either! (Think a change of calendar is called for!)
  • Is it possible to have the albums as a coverflow with the stock music player and how?!
  • The Voice Dialling works but the results it shows are very variable - doubt there is any way round this though.
Anyone with some words of wisdom an any of the above? Thanks in advance.

I found if you keep pressing back on internet it gets back to your homepage (eventually if ya browsed lots lol) and then press back again it takes you back to normal phone page, when you log on again you always at home page and your previous browse is not logged...... I hope that helps ..... it made more sense as i was writing it lol!

Another one:

I am not syncing my contacts to Google, but am using HTC Sync to Outlook, if this makes any difference. The issue is this - I have my son as a contact and he is on my phone with an IM record for his MSN instant messenger. I want to add his Google Talk record as well.

I edit the contact, scroll down to "add" and click it. Select "IM" and it doesn't give any options. I can't add a second IM record to an existing contact.

Is it really so bad to have to change it?

Honestly? Yes - it means that for just about every calendar entry I make, I have to go through the process of changing the reminder time. I don't work on reminders - my calender is a visual thing, not something that has to beep at me five minutes before every single thing I do.

It just baffles me that simple things like this seem to get forgotten. If the devs are going to go to the trouble of allowing us to set default reminder times from 5mins onwards, why not allow a "none" setting as well?

Yeah but you have to enter other stuff in anyway, a drop down box is not much hassle to change.

I do agree if there is a 'none' setting then there should be a default to have no reminder too. I suppose if it bothers you so much download another app. The good thing is you're not stuck having to use this calendar specifically!

I agree. HTC or Google's calendar leaves a lot to be desired (no pun intended) and could do with a major improvement. Maybe Android 2.2 would help pacify users?

If not, any suggestions as to the best Calendar Apps (preferable with sync capability to Google's Calendar, but I can LIVE with saving calendar details onto MicroSD card instead.).

I particularly liked the Pimlico's DateBk, but hope if they'd do a "port" over to Android's? Fingers crossed there....

Thank you for all replies.

@Si Pie - no it's not so bad to have to select it but it's another press I'd rather not do! Have you come across any good alternative calendars to download?

@nx1977 - thanks for the menu>home tip - I guess that's as close as it gets. I still can't manually set up a fortnightly event though:(

Any thoughts on the music as a coverflow. Anyone----?!

"I have set the calendar to open on 'day view' in the settings but this doesn't happen either! (Think a change of calendar is called for!)"

Are you sure?

You realise that pressing the home button just suspends the app and next time you run it, it will start where you left it, right?

To actually quit an app, you have to press the back button until the you're returned to the home screen. There may be a faster way to quit an app but I'm not aware of one - only had the Desire a couple of days myself though :D

Two more tiny things:

(a) My G2/Hero would allow me to unlock the screen with two presses of the "menu" key. My Desire requires me to press the power button on the top, and then either swipe or press the "menu" key. That's a backwards step as far as I can see.

(b) Not able to set a different lock screen wallpaper to my home wallpaper. I know it's only minor but it's an annoying change for no reason.

The one niggle I've not been able to resolve yet is the constant adding of Re: in the subject field when replying to a mail on the gmail app. Is there a simple way to fix this?

EDIT: To explain, I don't mean I'm having to add RE: - it's that each time I reply it adds another re: re: re: RE: and so on.

@nx1977: Thanks. I have now found the option to have fortnightly repeats set up online but need to be able to do it from the Calendar on the phone as I never use the calendar online. Is this possible? Sorry to be so thick!!
And when I want to delete 1 occurence of a repeating event on my phone I can't - only options are to delete 'all events' in series or 'this and future events'

Here's another one! My HTC calendar widget was working fine until I downloaded Task Manager today. I have since uninstalled Task Mangager but now when I first access the weather widget it seems unable to automatically access my current location ie. no text on the black screen at all. If I tap to update it at the bottom then it will load but if I don't and just try to scroll down through my weather locations it force closes saying 'the application HTC Sense(process com.htc.launcher) has stopped unexpectedly'. I have all autoupdate/background data/location etc on . What's going on???!!!

I've noticed a couple of things: -

I have most of my phone contacts (that I synced via Outlook from my old phone to avoid typing them all in again) linked to their facebook profile for that particular person. Once you have the two contacts linked you can choose the display name in "People" to be either the phone contact or the facebook name. Since I have a lot of people in my phone contacts as just their first name etc I have chosen the display name to be the facebook name so it has their surname too. The phone accepts this and lets me change the display name as appropriate but next time I go into the People app they've all changed back again.

Second thing is I've set the global date format to the UK way ie 31/12/10, this works nearly everywhere on the phone but in the Message app the list of messages still has the date back to front in the American way.
