Anyone else with wifi problems?

When I leave my phone for say 10 minutes or so, I'll wake the phone up and see the the wifi icon and network signal are orange, then after about 10 to 20 seconds they'll turn white again and i'll get my notifications. It's as if wifi turns off when the screen's off and turns back on when I turn the screen on. Anyone else had anything similar? When I use mobile data it's fine though.

Where I am at the moment admittedly does have really bad wifi. It's bad at the best of times, but I've had other phones and they've seemed fine with this wifi and router etc.

I noticed a similar thing with my current phone (still waiting for the Nexus). When I turn the screen on the Wifi signal shows minimal, but then it very quickly goes up to full strength. It takes my phone about a second or two to go up to full strength. I figured it was some sort of power-saving feature, but that's a total guess. 10-20 seconds seems like a while. Does the internet seem sluggish at first, or is the only symptom the icon? The fact that you don't get notifications could be a product of your push settings rather than the wifi signal...

Do you have the option to keep wifi turned on while in sleep set to always or did you set it to one of the other two options?

The internet connection is non existant until it changes from orange to white.

Yeah, wifi is always on in sleep.

Stock 4.4.2

Eurgh, hope this is just a software or router problem, and not a hardware defect on my phone.

Was it happening on 4.4.1 or 4.4 and only recently started? If so, that would lead me to think software. I would try booting the device up in safe mode to see if the issue still happens. If not, then an app is causing it.

For the moment, I have put my sim card in an old phone and created a wireless hotspot, and have connected my nexus 5 to it. I've put the old phone as far as I possibly can in my house and i have no problems with connection. So hopefully it is just my crappy router/internet provider. Dunno why I didnt think to try that method out sooner.

In case I still lose connection though, how do I put it in safe mode?
