DLNA on Android

Hi

My android phone has the ability is be setup as a DLNA server so that other devices can access media files. I want to keep the media access within my home network or subnet .

Can neighboring devices outside my subnet see my media files if I use DLNA?

Usually when connecting to a device via DLNA you have to give permission via the pop-up "do you want to allow device XXxxXX to connect".

But pretty sure they have to be logged in to your router, and be on your network to even see the device.

Actually, I don't want them to see the phone acting as a DLNA server and the media files. Just my home subnet only.

So, DLNA by default is for local network access only unless I specify otherwise.

If you are allowing them to use your local network / router, they will see your phone as DLNA Server. You may be able to set the DLNA Server to only allow specific devices to access. My Phone has "Allowed devices list" in the DLNA Settings - limits who could access the shared media.
