I just googled smartpay and read all complaints on them

I'll bet the majority are from today's current crop of societal blood sucking leaches who are whining from the disappointment of shockingly finding out that Smart Pay, unlike everything else in their lives, DOESN'T mean Some Else pays for it. THEY have to.

Cool answer... Now maybe something a lil more helpful?

Just back up a second here.

Do they take bad credit? Mine was ruined with astronomical medical bills after the age of 18...long hospital stay, no insurance.

They might take people with bad credit ratings. There's similar things in the UK, where they can buy items on installments even with bad credit, but the interest rates can be extremely high. And if one defaults on payments, they can be very quick to repossess.

Even if you do pay the instalments on time, the interest rate is still very high, like paying a total of $750 for a $425 phone over a 6 month period. Not sure how it works in the US, but in the UK it's what's known as a chattel loan, i.e. it's secured on your personal possessions rather than a judgement based on your credit status. Perfectly legal as well, providing they're a licensed credit broker and state the terms that you sign.

There's one in the UK called Brighthouse. They sell tech products and and three piece suites and things. They offer weekly "easy terms" for people with bad credit ratings, very high interest rates of course. And I've actually seen these peeps(bailiffs) come into a house repossessing things, with a warrant. They'll just take anything they judge to be of value to the outstanding amount.

AFAICT this Smart Pay is a separate company to the carrier.

Probably best to stick with a phone that is affordable to pay with cash.

I'd like to have an S-3, S-4, or even a Mega but a $400+ phone is beyond my budget or at least it's not a good bang for my buck phone.

Those devices are more like a luxury item. Do I really need one?

I got my LG Spirit from Wirefly for $229 delivered, then cashed in on the $70 MIR

I have a grandfathered $30 per month promo plan (Same as the current $40 per month plan)

Some people want the biggest and the best, the latest and the greatest, and that's how they get in over their head financially.

I just use Credit Cards for emergencies nowadays.

If I can't afford to pay cash for something, I don't buy it, or I save money until I can.

To some its not about the biggest and best, thry just want it, and this 4gb spirit isnt cutting it. If thry had a higher internal mem then id gladly stick eith it. And i dont evrn have a credit card , dont want one either lol
