Help Whatsapp corrupt images

Hi I tried to rename my whatsapp media folder now all my photos are showing that blank Grey box with a person in it with a crack... What's happened to all my photos I don't have root and I'm using stock everything apart from Nova launcher

I really don't know, but I suppose there is a hard-coded path to image folder, set between the app and the gallery upon installation (like VLC playlist). The moment you rename the folder, it can no longer identify the location of the photos, while having gallery's index files with list of images, which should be present in said gallery but are no longer there.

I suggest you explore the phone by connecting it to your computer, open whatsapp directory (WhatsApp Images), copy your photos and paste them into new folder under the DCIM directory. Then rename the folder to what it was, clear Gallery Data to rebuild the thumbnails index file. Don't mess with whatsapp's folders, if you don't want to keep your photos there, just move them manually once a week or so, in to a folder of your choice.

Strangely seems to have rectified itself and all my pictures back. Thanks for the advice though.
