Hate My Eris, Convince Verizon to Upgrade?

I hate my Eris. I'm sorry, everyone. I can deal with a slow processor, but I can't deal with so many force closes. I've never been so frustrated with a phone in my life! I can't tell you how many times I've been forced to remove the battery to restart the damn thing because it freezes like Windows 95.

So... How can I convince a Verizon rep to move up my upgrade when I show him/her the videos I took of all the bugs? Has anyone else done this? I've been eyeing the Incredible, and I've found I need something more powerful anyway.

How would you go about convincing a rep to upgrade you? I was thinking of expressing my distaste, show the videos of all the bugs, and complain that 2.1 keeps getting delayed, even though it was promised in early 2010 when I purchased it (part of the reason I got it).

I should also mention I'm the account owner for my entire family. What if I threatened to move us all to AT&T once the contract is up?

Well they wont care if you switch to AT&T. They have plenty of customers. If Verizon allowed you to upgrade to the Incredible at a discounted price, it would be unfair. If they allowed it, then Verizon should give all Eris users Incredibles. :D

So it's fair that I have a phone that crashes the entire OS constantly? I don't quite understand that. None of the phones I've ever had from Verizon have locked up and crashed entirely every day, forcing me to pull a battery out. Why should the Eris be an exception?

Maybe you downloaded a bad app that is causing the constant force closes. What exactly is force closing, an app or Sense?

It really depends on how close you are to your renewal date. For example I was able to get my wifes phone upgrade date moved up a month....although I had to make a few calls and be persistent about it. They will tell you they can't move the date after April 1st, but this is BS because they were able to move my wifes on April 6th.

Also I had a problem with a Palm phone I had with them, went through 4 phones in 2 weeks, I bitched enough to get them to get me a new phone. Once again they will tell you after April 1st 2010 they cannot do this, its a lie, they can.

Persistence is key.

I dislike my Eris too but I am not looking for Verizon to fix the problem. I want an Incredible so am selling my Eris to buy the Incredible.

Seagull84, trust me I FEEL your pain when it comes to this phone, but I believe that the quote above would be the best way to go about it. Instead of trying to force Verizon to give us a free upgrades because we dislike the way our phones perform.
But that is just me. :)

See ya! Is what they'll say if they have any sense. I have an account with thirty lines and I can get away with some crybaby stuff occasionally but tend not to take that road since I have to hear it from 29 other users. Now what I really don't get is why you think you deserve and want an incredible? Let's see you don't like this HTC product but you have to have another? You just want an excuse to grab the latest phone. Delete some of the crapapps and deal with it or pay up.

I'm no newbie to this kind of thing, I've spent plenty of time with computers (built 35 systems myself) to know what's normal OS behavior, and this is definitely not normal OS behavior, especially for Android. It's like getting a blue screen of death five times a day; that is not normal and if it were a desktop, I'd simply open 'er up and fix it. Since Verizon doesn't want us doing that (with risk of invalidating my warranty), I have no choice but to go through them. I've already posted the issues I've experienced elsewhere in this forum and been told it is not normal by some of the pro members.

Also, I don't see how being forced to remove my battery five times a day because the entire OS locks up is "crybaby" stuff. It's like getting a video card for your desktop that constantly overheats when underclocked, or getting a toaster that burns your counter. Bad product. No consumer should be forced to use a product that simply doesn't work, no matter who distributes that product.

Do you seriously have to pull the battery 5 times a day? You are doing something wrong on your phone if you do. I have the occasional force close, but not as much as you. It is usually a bad app, and when I narrow it down to that app, I uninstall it. Also, a simple reboot helps me.

I'd really like to know what kind of stuff you have on this phone if you have so many force closes. I have non market apps, market apps, v2.1 leak on my eris, and I can count on one hand how many force closes I have had since I put 2.1 on it almost month ago.

Vanilla Sense UI Android 1.5, I don't want to root or upgrade because then I lose the warranty if VZW finds out.

All these issues have existed since I got the phone.

I typically use CardioTrainer, Meebo, Skype, Advanced Task Killer, and Bump.

CardioTrainer is one of the main reasons I got the phone. The model of the phone didn't really matter, but I run tons of marathons and having a phone that does not record all the data associated with my runs because of locking up is a major problem.

All the HTC apps force close consistently. Other HTC apps simply don't work at all (Messager force closes upon launching, the Mail app force closes upon launching, YouTube force closes upon launching, Weather gives strange error messages, Gmail force closes once every five or so launches. can't think of all the others without going down a list).

The worst is the lock-ups, which are completely random. The entire touch screen locks up at the lock screen when I want to unlock the phone. This can occur when no apps are running at all, and it's about five times a day. I've waited as long as a hour for it to unfreeze, but it NEVER unfreezes. I've had the phone since mid-February, and this has been an issue since then. The only solution (NO, pressing the home or menu buttons does NOT do anything) is to pull the battery out.

If alot of the issues you have are with stuff that comes with the phone before you add anything to it, why don't you call verizon to get a replacement? Maybe you have a lemon on your hands.

Have you tried a factory restore?

my buddy had an issue with every single env2 that he got, he went through like 5 in a month if I remember and every time it was a bug related to the software update. he was given a voyager instead for free, but this means going to the verizon store, bitch about the issue, take the replacement for a day, bring it back with error in hand, over and over again until the rep sees you so often that they never want to see you enter the store again.

Verizon isn't gonna do crap for you, I've tried all the excuses, they just don't care. Just for the record I don't have too many problems with my Eris. I would gladly take an Incredible, but I like my Eris.

Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk

Not true. Verizon has been nothing but pleasant to me. They've replaced countless phones for free (including water damaged when I didn't have water damage insurance).
