4.3 update Discussion and issues HERE !!!

But if the recent guys with 4.3 could keep us updated that would be nice :)
Yeah, it would be interesting to hear other's opinions. I'm still jaded and love 4.1.2 more than 4.3. Though I'm starting to live with it. I just hate it when I need to resort to other apps to get some 4.1.2 functionality back.

Anyone who had subtle dislikes to 4.3 like it yet?
I'm living with it (doesn't translate to liking it)... But it gets the job done.

I might try Widget Locker for the lock screen; if only to get rid of the butt ugly interface that is in its place now. Also see if I can customize it to the way I want it.

But from what I see, I would say an average user that doesn't use much of the features already really won't notice a difference. I think users who use a lot of the features from 4.1.2 will notice how much is lost and how little was added to the update. It's us heavy users that gripe and complain because it feels gutted more than anything else.

Just installed the update, it is 4.3. I am in the UK unlocked. Not noticed much difference just yet.
Light, moderate or heavy user? Keep us posted... :)

Well the system had said it was update 4.3. I assume it had already downloaded in my sleep because it almost automatically rebooted after selecting. If this is the case, is it possible to access the update files manually somehow? And might this be the reason when I manually search for the update it thinks the system is up-to-date?

Although after reading all the horror stories. Now I'm a bit skeptical to update to 4.3 myself.

P.s. I've never messed with kies, I'd have to read up on it I suppose.
Only way to tell if the update was 4.3 is to check About device in the settings. If it still says 4.1.2, then it wasn't the 4.3 update. Have you tried doing a cache wipe in the Android Recovery Console? Then check manually for the update?

Only had it an hour or so but like it. Feels quicker and I like the settings menus. Not tried Knox and barely played with wallet.
Battery usage feels similar. Nothing has fc yet.
Light, moderate or heavy use? I know battery life is stellar under light use. But when I push it and go moderate to heavy use, the battery tanks. I had Puffin force close. Sent the report out after that.

Would someone who has updated their N2 to 4.3 please check the S-Note app to see whether or not it can still solve mathematical formulae. That is, do any of the menus have the 'Formula Match' icon lurking among them?

Still there. They kept it the same with the 4.3 update for the Note 2.

Anybody have a problem when on the Internet or instagram with the pictures looking all pixilated and blocky? Looks horrible and I can't figure out how to adjust it so it looks normal like it did before the update it's driving me insane! Any suggestions or input? I'm going to do a hard reset on my phone today I guess, my battery has been draining like no other since the update as well not to mention a few hours after the update my sd card magically took a Shit and stopped working completely and I lost almost 1000 pics :( but I'm still trying to get this horrible pixel picture deal fixed
I'll check it out later and see how Puffin handles it. I don't use Instagram, so not sure. But internet pages that have pics don't pixelate on mine. I'll view my photobucket account and see what that looks like. I'll check both mobile and desktop modes.

Since my update my phone dies by 6pm and I reall dont do much from 7a to 330p because im at work
Try booting into safe mode first and see how battery life is. Maybe a 3rd party app is screwing it up. Or something residual or old could be messing with it which might require a hard wipe to fix. I forgot who it was stated that doing a hard wipe and SD format fixed the issue. It's somewhere in this thread.

Battery life should be stellar if left in standby. I find it's really bad if put into moderate to heavy use.

Yup, hope this is the one! Size about 700MB. Downloading now. :)
WTF? I wonder what AT&T removed from the update... Mine was 705.39MB.

Damn this update is taking its time to get to the Uk and most other places tbh.
Hey whiskey can we take this silence as your phone had a cardiac during installation?

I have just downloaded the new firmware 18/12/13 (on T-Mobile UK. What a big mistake I have found out that Kies 3 no longer works with Outlook so no longer able to sync my Note. If anyone needs to sync with Outlook then leave this upgrade until it is sorted.

I never got KIES to work properly with Outlook. I'm currently using Outlook.com and Outlook connector to do syncing. Pimlical on a separate DB for things I don't want in the cloud.

My N2 is still on 4.1.2 and use MyPhoneExplorer to sync with Outlook with very few problems. It also works on my Note 10.1, 2014 which has 4.3.

Thank you NeoGrandizer; I don't use 'Formulae Match' that often but it would have been a deal breaker for me.

This is still available on the Note 3 which as you know is on Android 4.3, however its not as quick as the Note 2 on 4.1 to access.
Mike has a video explaining on 1min 19 secs for the Note 3, maybe someone who has the Note 2 on 4.3 can check this also.

Hi Evohicks

Thank you for the tip but could you elaborate a little more please? I've looked at quite a few N3 youtube videos and I can now get S-Note to convert a handwritten formula into printable text. A good step forward but I still cannot get the formula to be solved as the N2 does Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

After reading various GN2 boards, I think I will try the update this weekend. I plan to use Kies to backup my device, unmount and remove my sd card, and do a factory reset. I will then download the update. I've read more than once that a factory reset, extremely annoying as it is, may be the best way to avoid any update issues and maximize the performance gains. This is one area where the iDiot fanboys have the advantage with iOS updates.

Since my upgrade 3 days ago, I have noticed a marked reduction in battery life. Running stock, normal use for me would have left me around 75-80% after running from 8:30 until 9pm. Now same usage I read 43%. Not happy about that.

Just an update and shout out to Wiley_11: Your suggestion to pull the battery then hold power button for 30 seconds, then reinsert battery seems to have done the trick. Like you said "weird, but it works...and free"

I updated mine on 12/11. Since then I went from losing ~6% total over nite to ~5% per hour over nite. I removed battery and held power button for 30 seconds then replaced battery. Back to ~6% loss total over nite again. :screwy:
Don't know if this will help but the price is right ! Good luck. :D

Yes I have also used this and it did work for me, but outlook has many more features which I have been using which I need for my business. I am very surprised that Samsung have produced such a poor upgrade to their Kies software which was designed to work with a premium product such as the note 2, I am sure many people are using this phone for business and will be in the same situation as me. As it stands this phone for me is now redundant and I am in the market for a new phone, and it won't be a Samsung.

Kies Version 2.6 worked well for me, this new software Version 3, is a major step back in functionality and more importantly no longer works with Microsoft office and Outlook email client. I also have Outlook connector and will take a look at this as an alternative option. Thanks for the tip.

That's fine, thank you Evohicks. Otherwise, I'd have 'kissed an awful lot of frogs' before finding the princess! As of yet, I have only been able to check it out on my tablet Note's 4.3 but I still cannot find an f(x) symbol. I will persist with it when time permits and hopefully, I will be able to also check it out on a shop's Note 3 before too long.

Actually it's around 1:40 that Mike starts to talk about Wolfram Alpha.

It's actually buried in S Finder and not S Note in the Note 3.

Edit: the Note 2 with 4.3 can still do Wolfram Alpha search within the S Note app. It's still integrated (unlike the Note 3).

The S-Finder is the essential clue and according to S-Finder's 'Help' there should be an f(x) button available when 'Handwriting' selected but as yet I cannot find it.

The fact that it is still readily available in the 4.3 Note 2 removes another negative, though the jury is still out on the remaining negatives and risks, described in this thread.

I'd just like to know how to disable the update notification. I don't want to update my phone to 4.3 but this notification shows up at least every hour now.
The stupidity of some carriers. Don't understand why they don't let the user have that choice. The option is still available and is under settings. But it's again dependent on the carrier. :(

KIES is a bit flaky and was so when using with Outlook. I never got it to behave properly. So had to scrap it and use it strictly for backups and transferring of S Notes.

I'm on Vodafone UK and I dowloaded the file last night but my phone reports a problem trying to upgrade. Not sure if this is because it's rooted.
Rooting is the problem. You need to unroot. You might need to reset the flash counter as well, or not. Not to sure about that.

I've used my note with the new update for a while... and there are some things that really really really annoy me...

1. my google calendar stopped notifications. The amount of meetings I was late for was not cool.

2. battery (although not noticed at first) drains fast. Overnight I go from 60% to 12 on 6hrs of sleep. On the weekends, my phone just dies since I sleep longer

3. for some reason i can no longer make my keyboard get smaller for one hand operation with pinching... don't know how to make it work again, as I cannot find the settings :(

4. the phone lags a LOT. From turning on when I press the home or power buttons, to opening an app, to opening a typing field and even typing shows way later than i typed it.

5. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate the ugly locked screen text or missed call or email notification... if they are trying to be like apple and display everything on the locked screen, at least 1) make it pretty and 2) give me an option to opt out!

6. this one is probably most important... i get notifications when i need to update my apps in the notification bar. However, when I click on the link and it opens play store it just keeps loading and loading. It never actually opens the store. so I have to close the app, then manually go into my apps, find play store and select to update manually.

I can't think of what else, but I'm sure there are other things I don't love.

All in all... not happy.
