4G borked after update...my Droid DNA story

Hi all!

So I decided to upgrade my phone via Craigslist after a little phone envy caused by my wife's new Moto X (both of us coming from the Galaxy Nexus). I found a limited employee edition of the DNA in near mint condition for $200. 4G worked just fine on 4.1 and knew I had an update to Sense 5 with 4.2.2 so I decided to not root it just yet and leave it stock for awhile.

Applied the 4.2.2 OTA update and 4G was gone...never to be seen again. Often times...all cellular connectivity would crap out. Went to the Verizon store and got a new SIM (just in case that would fix it)...no help. Factory resets...no help. But since the 4G was working fine before the update, Verizon sent me a refurbished phone. I got it yesterday...installed the 4.2.2 OTA update and all is well. But I already miss the red back of the limited edition one

I have rarely taken an OTA cause I'm usually rooted and running custom firmware. I go the "easy" route cause I don't feel like tinkering with the phone...I just want to use the phone...and spend more time dealing with it as a result haha!

Anyway...just thought I'd share in case it happens to someone else. Really liking the phone and despite being a year old...it has aged well cause of the great specs that it launched with. I'll probably rock this phone for awhile but I'm sure I'll have to root the damn thing to flash some "cool" looking ROM soon...but trying to cure my flashing addiction (or at least curb it for awhile). My Nexus 7 is giving me my "latest and greatest" Android fix so maybe I'll be okay running 4.2.2 on my phone for awhile (first world problems right? LOL).

Bummer about losing the red one, but glad you are up and running. I didn't have any issues with 4.2.2 myself. I agree the phone is holding up well after over a year of service.

I also agree about how the phone is holding up. The main reason I will likely replace it is the battery. Li-Ion batteries only last so long, and not being able to change it [easily] is a bummer. Otherwise this phone stands up very well to what's available today...if you can live with the fixed storage capacity, which I can.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm a little miffed with this phone and it's perceived value. The DNA is going for $200 on Craigslist while the HTC One, Moto X, Droid Ultra, S4,...are all going for nearly double that. Hell, even the S3 is going for more than the DNA. Considering the age, and specs, and build quality, I don't see why.

If anyone is looking for an off-contract used phone around $200...this is a no brainer for Verizon. Battery life is the only real "meh" aspect of this phone...but honestly it seems to be acceptable battery life. Not stellar...but acceptable. The S4 Pro probably isn't as efficient as the 600 or 800 chips but this also has a smaller battery. Real world performance doesn't seem to be much different from the 600 at least (the 800 is a true beast though). I'm just thankful to not have an TI OMAP chip anymore haha!

True on both accounts. 16GB isn't a big issue with me though but sure 32GB would have been better of course. I have bought phones with replaceable batteries before but...never actually did replace them LOL!
