Google maps voice guide will no longer work while playing music

Hello friends,

I have an S4 and typically, while I'm driving and need to use the maps navigation, I will just hook it up to my stereo (via bluetooth) and it will put the voice guidance through my speakers. Now, in the past, I've been able to use the music player as well and it will just pause the music briefly while it gives me the directions and then put the music back on. Very nice. But recently, and I suspect right after I installed the most recent software update, the music will pause and I will catch a snippet of the words maybe, or simply nothing, and then it will start back up. If I stop the music, the voice guidance comes through normally. I was wondering if anyone else has this problem? It's not a HUGE deal, but it'd be nice to be able to listen to music and use maps while I'm driving. If anyone needs more details, please let me know!

I see that it was fixed in the most recent firmware update, but I just checked and it says that I am completely up to date on software. Is there anything else I can do to try and fix this?

you may only be up to date as far as your network/region is concerned.
This was fixed since MK8 was released.

What version are you actually on?
If you are indeed on a pre-MK8 version as I suspect, then post #6 still stands.

I'm on at&t, and I am currently running 4.3 Hopefully a patch or a new version will be released soon, but until then I'll just have to deal with it...thank you for your help!

Why do I even bother posting instructions on how to find the firmware version!

There are 18 models of Galaxy S4 and over 1,000 different firmwares. Not all problems apply to all models of S4 and not to all firmwares. ;)

What version of 4.3 specifically?
The first couple of versions of 4.3 (eg mj5 had this problem. Mk8 was the first 4.3 firmware that fixed this error.

Why don't you do as I suggested in my post on the other thread and use google play music.

I think you may be wasting your breath old boy! :banghead:

What if some people (like myself) actually want to hear the directions?

It was a joke, but quite frankly I don't know why anyone would want their songs interrupted three times just to let them know about a turn that is clearly visible on the screen of their phone. Even worse is if the interruption actually names the street each of the times, meaning it interrupts your music even longer.

I probably haven't used the voice prompts on a GPS device for at least 5 years, but I have decent eyesight and a decent memory, so I'll remember where the next turn is. My wife's eyesight sucks, so she needs the prompts. So I realize not everyone is the same.

I may use google play music, but I simply don't like it as well, so you know.

Seems I have MK2. Sorry, I didn't see your instructions on how to find it at first! Sir grumpy pants.

So you probably also think I shouldn't just repeat my suggestion of muting the navigation voice too, right? ;) :p

I think that I can just mute the voice from now on, but the problem is I don't have a mount currently so it requires me to take my attention off the road to look at my phone, which is the whole reason I LIKED the voice guidance in the first place. But it's fine, I don't use the navigation much anymore, as I've finally learned my way around town (recently moved).

There's also Amazon's music player. I've never really used the stock player except when it gets launched accidentally by my car's BT connection.

Without a mount the voice would be necessary. Depending on your car model, Proclip makes some pretty nice dash mounts. On my Subaru, however, their dash mount is way too low (down by the right knee), so I had to look for other options.

I was having a different but similar problem with my LG G2. With my default media player it wouldn't pause the music, but slightly lower it's volume when giving directions. So basically the GPS voice prompts were inaudible. The solution for me was using the free Double Twist medial player while driving. It paused the music fine so I could clearly hear the directions. I know this isn't exactly what you are experiencing but it may be worth a try. I don't particularly like the double twist app so I only use it while driving. Other times I use my media player of choice. It wasn't a perfect solution but definitely a practical one

Yes, same issue that you're having.

I'm on CM11 with my SGSIII, and i use spotify. It's a bigger issue, since the only player that can even play spotify tracks is spotify itsself.

Seems like there is almost nothing i can do, any thoughts?
