Help Battery loss while charging in car

I am charging my Note 3 with a USB car charger with 2A capacity. With BT and GPS on it actually looses battery percentage while charging. Even if I don't have any apps open. And I had the power save enabled.

Is the charger not powerful enough or is there something draining my phone?

Some chargers aren't necessarily made for the Note 3 or Samsung devices. This can be the issue if you are just using a regular car charger.

Otherwise how good is the battery life with your device, maybe post some battery stats and we can see if your phone is behaving weird.

Most phones are like that for me while charging using my car. I don't think the car sends out quite enough juice. Are you charging using a cigarette lighter or the usb socket in your car?

I know most Samsung phones limit themselves to a half amp charge if it's through usb plugged into the computer, and only get the full amp when its AC. So many the phone things you're plugged in through a computer? Try using CurrentWidget to check how much juice it's getting.

Mine charges with both on. Make sure your charger and cable are really putting out 2 Amps. Try the Galaxy Charging app to see how many amps are getting to your phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.abmantis.galaxychargingcurrent.free

Mine shows 1200-1600 mA which is enough to charge it.

It is a cigarette lighter charger.

It looks like it is charging in an AC profile (and not USB as mentioned above), but if it is doing AC, it should be a higher rate than that I think. Might not be enough juice from the car.

Small car? Old car? Cold car? Maybe too hot and the phone is limiting it for overheating?

I have a 2007 Toyota Prius. It was never a problem with my Galaxy S4....

Charger app shows 1200.

It is a cigarette lighter charger.

If the charger app shows 1200, then I'm assuming that means 1200ma, which translates to 1.2A. That's not a 2A charger that you're using.

Now, the one caveat I should mention is that, while running navigation, charge just holds idle. But without any apps running, charges fine...slow...but still good enough while in the car.

It's the micro-usb plug type that I used on Galaxy S4. I guess I'm using 2.0 then. I can try with the cable that came with my Note 3

It says 2A on the charger. It has two USB ports and it says 1x2A or 2x1A.

Not so...not at all. Charge rate on a USB 3 vs 2 is only affected by computers that actually have a USB 3.0 port. In your car, or using the wall charger, there is no such thing as USB 3.0. Cables rated at under USB 2.0 can slow things down however.

Are you charging any other devices at the same time?

Still sounds to be like the charger isn't reaching 2a

I found this to be the only one that actually charged my note 3 from the car/camper - quite quickly too.

So true, another thing to keep in mind is that regardless of whether or not you use your standard Samsung charger that came with your device it will only make a different in charging if it's actually plugged into your computer to a USB 3.0 slot, that is in fact installed to be a USB 3.0, there is software that you typically need to install on your computer to activate them.

Tried charging with the original USB cable and now it works just fine I have 1.8A charging.

I have a 2007 Toyota Prius. It was never a problem with my Galaxy S4....

Hmm. That is pretty weird. I just use a cheap old AT&T charger in my car that says it is charging at around 800 Mah on my 2007 Prius and I get about a 2% increase in the charge every 10 minutes while keeping the screen using Waze (GPS App) and listening to an audio book via Audible. Perhaps your battery is defective?
