If You Could Move To Any Other Country . . ..

I'm getting rather sick of the United States for many different reasons (rampant consumerism, near complete complacency in the face of erosion of the Bill of Rights, a health care system that will likely collapse of its own weight, and near complete intolerance of any difference of opinion, etc.). So that's gotten me thinking about moving out of the country.

Attractive places would be Canada (very similar to US, close to US, mostly English speaking), Tahiti (beautiful and laid back) and the Philippines (again tropical and a lot of English speakers). But I'm not terribly serious about this moving idea, yet, so I've not really researched any of them fully and have questions about each.

I am curious though. Has anyone else considered moving, and if so to where and what have you done to research the place you would move?

I love the Philippines and if I had the money to never have to work again, I would move there in a heartbeat. I spent two years there on an LDS mission and learned to speak Tagalog.

The cost of living would certainly be a factor. I'm assuming it would be cheaper to live in the Philippines than Canada.

1 place that I have my eye on is New Zealand.

Half of South Africa is there already... and Australia... how sad.

I'm good friends with a retired New Zealand Pro Rugby Player...hang out occasionally with a few others from the team....cuz of he and his wife...parties and such...
I can tell you that they are the most insane feel no pain crazy dare devil WTF...TOUGHEST people I have ever met!

and every single one of them is a true gentleman.....

OMG that reminds me....
My Grandparents would always go to Acapulco several times a year to a family run boutique hotel...They took my bro and sis and I a few times...I remember it was the first time I ever saw glowing blue waves and sand(bioluminescence) it was there every year and it was awesome....went back to Acapulco with sis and Mom stayed in resort area...boutique hotel was hit by storm? or under construction??? I didn't like it...It was all polution and I felt bad for the horses they had pulling carts as taxi's...the glowing blue was gone

anyway the Boutique Hotel on the cove...not in the resort area is back up and running....same family

I've been all over the world while in the Navy and through vacations. I am constantly looking for a better place to live. But whenever I sit down and think about it objectively, I always end up with the same conclusion: the US is the worst place to live...except for everywhere else. Although Sweden or Norway wouldn't be bad.
