I can't activate art??

When I first got my Nexus 5 I switched to ART from Dalvik and everything was fine. I then rooted it and after a while of it being rooted I decided to revert to stock, so I factory reset my phone but now even though it's no longer rooted when I try to switch to ART it reboots yet the phone remains in Dalvik anyways.

What's wrong and how do I fix this? I've heard that Xblast Tools is the culprit but I honestly don't know.

If you use Xposed framework it forces your phone to use dalvik.

Keep in mind a factory reset (ie wiping data) will NOT unroot you. So if thats all you did to unroot thats your issue

Then I need to re-root then unroot or something? Also, I think I DID unroot via supersu or something before I reset it. Still, the changes I had made via the modules still remained...

You need to either flash the stock unrooted ROM or the factory image to properly unroot.

"Unrooting" via supersu only means the app won't grant permissions anymore. It doesn't undo the changes made during root

And.. I didn't think that root status mattered to switch to ART? I may forget the order I did things, but I'm pretty sure I unlocked, then rooted my phone and then changed to ART.

Root checker likely will say he isn't rooted, because he doesn't have a functioning root app. However, the changes he made to the system while rooted (xposed framework) is preventing the use of art

This may sound crazy but when I tried to switch to art (stock rooted) it would always put me in a boot loop but when I tried to factory reset, it simply reverted back to dalvik with all my data secured. So I installed multi rom and accidentally deleted my stock rom so I added cataclysm and tried switching to art and it works flawlessly. However since my primary rom was deleted, twrp displayes no os is installed, but that's not a problem as I am multi booting cataclysm by setting it as my default boot option. And art now works flawlessly however I don't really see much of a difference between dalvik and art you really have to see them side by side to notice any difference.

Especially with the optimized dalvik and bionic libs we have available. No need to risk bugs with art

Another thing to note is that art causes apps to increase in size to the point that it is almost double the origional size. For instance I had apps on my phone that took up 3gb of storage and after enabling art it became 6 gigs also installations times are also increased because of art. I wouldn't really recommend using art unless you opted for the 32 gb version. I personally don't need that much space and I can barely fill up 4 gigs so 16 gb was more than enough for me. So I just ended up going back to dalvik to save some persious storage and I don't really wanna bother buying any adapters and such to increase storage. Just a heads up ART will decrease your storage.
