Hello everyone I've had my Droid Maxx since the summer and I just recently have been having a problem with the camera. Everytime I start it it says "Camera Error" and I just have to press OK and it closes. If I turn it off after a day it will give me the error. Then I immediately turn it on again and it will work long enough to take 1-3 pics or so and give me the error again. It looks like a software issue or possibly an update issue because the camera actually does take pictures.

I have Android 4.2.2 and System Version 12.15.15.obakem_verizon.Verizon.en.US

That's really the only thing I can think of that explains this camera error. Although it seems the camera error happened out of nowhere. I haven't added any apps or anything. I DID update the camera app about 3 weeks ago it was some Motorola camera update. I started getting that error several days later. I since uninstalled that update, wiped the system cache, shut the app/cleared cache/cleared data and anything else I could do but it keeps giving me that error. I'm starting to suspect the error is related to the system update. Others on other pages have been reporting the same problem.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Or is there a way to force an update to my phone? Maybe a system update will change things. Thank you!

One or two things you could try are go into settings / apps, find camera and tap it, and tap the button "clear data". See if that solves the problem. If not, in the same place, tap "uninstall updates" and see if that helps. You'll be prompted for the update in the play store again, but you can try running a while without it.

A friend of mine Maxx did the same thing. He tried everything software related and nothing worked. Turns out it was hardware related. They sent him a new Maxx.

I have a feeling it's going to be hardware related.

I tried everything the others suggested even the safe mode re-boot.

Do you know if I should go to the Verizon store or call Motorola directly? Will I have to be without a phone for several days while they send me a new one? Thanks!

One other thing it could be, I think, is corruption in the file system where photos are stored. At the least you could try erasing or renaming the DCIM folder. The theory being that you get a crash when storing the photos.

Though, honestly, I suspect hardware. I think you can call or go to Verizon and they'll arrange a warranty exchange by mail.

Called support, went through all of the tech helps instructions although he'd already done everything that they suggested before he called. They escalated his call and overnighted him a new Maxx.
