Developer's edition.....??

Could I have been sent a developer's edition by accident with my most recent (3rd) replacement?

I ask this because one time I rebooted my phone while it was in my car mount and it booted into recovery. It gave me multiple options in different colors. Keep in mind I've never rooted this phone or attempted to root any phone since my OG Droid 3 years ago. I had to pull the battery and then it was fine.

Today at work I put it on airplane mode then shut it off until lunch like usual. I never used it. Then on lunch I went to turn it on and it had some warning screen on that said something like "Warning: A custom OS can damage your phone". I did a battery pull and started it up just fine but the battery was down to 83%!

What the heck? Even if I accidentally turned it on in my pocket, how did that appear?

That sounds like a Knox security warning and wouldn't appear on the developer phones.

What model of phone do you have and what firmware version is running on it?

#1 Could you post your Model number and Android version...

To locate these, go to...

Settings > More > About device > Model number and Android version

This will give you the model of Samsung Galaxy S4 that you have and which Android version you are on.


#2. Your current Firmware version, (not baseband)...

To locate your current firmware version, go to the dial pad and type in...

*#1234#

This will give you your, "Version", details in full, usually 3 lines of information which may all be relevant.

SCH-I545 running Android 4.3

I guess it doesn't make sense that I could have the developer's edition. Still, how can my phone that is both on airplane mode AND off give me that screen and drop from 100% to 83% in less than 6 hours? That's quite amazing how it managed to do that!

Not so amazing really. It happens all the time to rooters and flashers when we update or flash ROMs and restore nandroid backups. The battery chip is thrown out of sync and needs to be recalibrated.

Point taken. However, I've never rooted, ROM'ed or anything else to my S4......

You may never have flashed or updated it. However, can you guarantee that it wasn't, before you received this 3rd replacement phone...

I definitely can't! Best I can do is mention that after my 4.3 update, I did a factory reset. I always do this after major updates.

I'm afraid that that does not re-calibrate your battery chip, which is why you see so many people complaining about the awful battery life straight after updates.

Mine spins somewhere in between the two extremes. Assuming that I contact Samsung for a replacement, how do I know for sure that this will fix all these issues?

Also, could this have caused 2 bad headphone jacks and one phone having an issue with reading the micro SD card on my most recent replacement? If so, why did replacing the phone fix the issues?
