How's your Battery Life so far?

I've had the phone for about 2 months and I think it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. I can foresee the battery life becoming a problem down the road after months of charging.

I use my phone all day (texting, facebook, browser, games, ect). Sometimes, I end the day at 40% and sometimes close to empty. If i'm on WiFi most of the day, it tends to be closer to the 40%.

What are other people seeing? Anyone have any battery saver tips?
Sometimes, I check what is using my battery and it's "google search".
Every so often, when I go to google now, it doesn't show anything and is trying to load and uses a lot of battery so I have to force stop and open google now again and that works.

thx

I have been very impressed with the Moto X battery life! I was skeptical at first given it's not all that large. However, the screen and software must be very efficient. I usually get around 15 hours of life give or take. WiFi at home, and 4G LTE at work 8 hours with moderate use. It's a nice change of pace from my 2 year old Razr that couldn't go through my work shift without needing to be plugged in.

For on-screen time on mobile data (not home wireless), I get a solid 2 hours, which is fine, not really that great. What really helps (and is much better than my old Galaxy Nexus) is the off-screen time. The Moto X knows how to idle. So as long as I don't use more than two hours of the screen being fully on (so apart from Active Notifications), the phone lasts quite a long time... usually the whole day (early morning to close to midnight).

Found this post which I will try to help me deal with google search taking up too much of my battery

Surprisingly "Google Search" is the #1 battery drain (~60%). In the three hours since I unplug the charger, the battery life came down to 50%. All I did was checking emails and browsing now and then. I even have DU battery saver installed and optimized the system quite often. But it didn't seem to help too much. I see someone complained that "Google Play Services" can be a battery killer but google search? Anyone having similar issue?

The issue with this draining your battery is that you have location turned off, if you turn it on and leave it on you will not get the battery drain. With it off Google search is constantly looking for the location and cannot find it which is what is draining your battery. Had this issue and once I turned on location and left it on, no more drain. Hope this helps!

I found some old posts with similar issue. It appeared that the updates of google search have a bug which is killing the battery. I have uninstalled the updates, and so far so good. But you brought up an interesting point cuz I thought havingn location on is like having the 3G on which takes up a lot of juice. I will definitely give it a try. Thanks.

Here's the final result at 1% battery remaining after my last post: 36:09 off charger, and 4:54 SOT. As I was posting this I noticed a slight blip in the battery level that looks like it was charging at some point, but I assure it it wasn't.

Uncle Mike, if you happen to have a day or two to use your Moto X with wireless turned off (so just mobile data), can you post up what your screen-on time is like? I'm assuming you're able to get up to 5 hours because you have wireless on most of the time. Otherwise, maybe I have a malfunctioning unit!

It was rare that I was willing to not charge my phone overnight, but I knew I would be in a position to charge it when it was ready to die. I can certainly go a full day (of awake time) with turning on Wifi only when I need it (i.e. to print locally, or transfer files to another device on the LAN). It may be a while before I can generate that much SOT though.

I don't want you to go out of your way to do that just so I can see the results, but if you do happen to have a couple of days straight you're not using wireless, I'd be curious to see what the on-screen time is (I hope it's close to what I'm getting, which is just barely over two hours).

OMG here's the best reason for choosing the X over the S4...

Both phones are about equal in apps installed, except the X is running the VZW LTE sim.

X = current draw of 219 mA, maybe up to 300 spikes
S4 = 460 mA current draw, constantly.

That's almost 2x the current drain idling and just running elixir 2 and opening up the into screen to show the current drain. My S4 has mobile data disabled (obviously), so it should be drawing less! Both are on my home wifi, with the same settings.

What's the average 'Screen Time' people are averaging?

I get about 4-5 hours but my battery only lasts for about 10-11 hours max.

The last time I got near 5 hours of screen on time was with 18 hours of charger. With my typical usage I have anywhere from 30% - 50% left after 18 hours, so I've really lost interest in keeping close tabs on my battery life.

The update to 4.4.2 has improved my battery life just a little bit. It was already pretty good, but now I have even more battery left at the end of each normal usage day (for me).

I was initially a bit worried after the update, because battery usage was HORRIBLE the first couple of days after the update. But after all the apps finally got their updates, it has steadily improved. Certainly MUCH better than the battery life in my last phone (Atrix HD).

Twice this week I was in address with a poor signal (according to the battery history details) and had to make extended phone calls of 1-2 hours, and got low battery warnings and partially charged my battery around 4pm one day and 8pm the other. Aside from these two instances and when I first got the phone (and couldn't put it down), I can't remember the last time I charged my battery before going to bed.
