Help G-Note 1 Running Out of Device Storage

Hello,
I have had my Samsung Galaxy Note Original (NOT rooted) for a little over a year, and like my smartphone before it, it says its running out of device storage.
I have uninstalled many apps, which helped when this alert first occurred but now it's useless. I use AppMgr III that lets me know which apps can be moved to the SD card and all my photos are on the SD card, too. I do not have any videos or music (besides ringtones). I regularly use Clean Master, as well.
A couple weeks ago, Clean Master said my available device storage was at 10%, now its at 3%. I just uninstalled more apps last night and the percentage did not change.
I have been trying to get help from Samsung on their support Facebook page but they are slow at answering my questions.
I have about 20 apps that need updating and they can't because of "insufficient storage". I've had the same apps on my phone for about 6 months so I don't understand how I'm running out of device storage. I cannot afford another phone right now so this is starting to become a huge problem. What can be done about this?

1) If you uninstall an app without clearing its data and cache, they remain.

2) Moving an app to SD moves most of it there - some stays in internal memory. And it stores its data in internal memory.

A phone has a fixed amount of storage. If you need to store more apps than the phone can handle, you need a phone with more internal storage.

Like I said, I've had pretty much the same apps for about 6 months now. How come the memory is running out if the same things are there? Are updates just getting bigger and bigger in file size?

How do I clear the cache for apps I've already uninstalled? Will CleanMaster handle that?

I cannot afford another phone right now so this is starting to become a huge problem.

You are not alone. I have the same problem, and so do many other Note 1 and Note 2 users. I had the problem with standard Samsung ROM, and thought rooting and changing to CyanogenMod may fix it. It didn't, in fact the memory decline got faster and I now have much less apps installed.

I have uninstalled all but about 7 apps now. It keeps getting worse. I freed up some space by deleting about 250MBs from the data/log directory but still the memory decreases on a regular march towards zero. The data log directory had a ton of files in there about 1mb each, just memory dumps or something when the Note had some sort of brain fart. Deleting them causes no problems and gets some precious memory back.

There is another directory called "lost+found" which has over 700 files and directories. It is my guess that this is the directory that is sucking up all of my Internal memory. Yet to confirm it though. Hope this helps.

I deleted all the files and sub folders in the lost+found directory and that freed up 1.5GB of internal memory. That was the problem that was causing me all of the grief.

That's a new one! Did you need to be rooted to delete it?

Yes, I am pretty sure you have to be rooted to see that directory and delete the contents of it.

I believe the contents in this directory get put there from corruptions in the OS. Mine had a ton of files with lots of different create dates. I will keep an eye on it to see if any more get created.

To anyone that needs to delete the sub folders and files, I believe you should not delete the lost+found directory itself as I believe there is something special about the directory and you cannot just create a new directory the regular way if you delete it. So only delete sub folders and files.

The cleaning app that I use cleans that folder. It fills up fast.

Yes you need Root to access the lost+found directory.

The directory is located at \data\lost+found

Before finding and removing all of this crap in the lost+found directory my phone was close to useless. Available internal memory got as low as 2Mb at one point. I could not update existing apps, certainly could not install new ones, my phone was crippled and could only be used for a few basic things. I had to uninstall most of my apps to let the remaining ones live. Prior to finding this fix I had already ordered a new Note 3, because I had tried many things and could not stop the death march that my phone was on. Now my phone feels like new again.

I don't know how to root my phone. Does rooting erase everything that's on it?

It really helped Thanks a ton for your tip. I tried all the options like moving apps to sd card storage, deleting unwanted apps, deleting junk files, etc. But nothing worked:confused. And I was abt to format & reinstall OS

I found that because I have "Drop Box" all my space has been going to feed it. It appears that it saves every thing I do. When I un-installed it (clearing everything) and re-installed it (I just might need it someday), I gained 5.5 gig! A complete history of my browsing since I got the phone. I plan to clear this often. I'm sure there are other apps that do the same thing...I'm not knowledgeable enough to know.

Type *#9900# on your keypad
System will show list of options
WARNING!!! - Please do not touch anything except -
Delete dumpstate/logcat. This is the only option to be touched. Please beware

Then scroll down to view the last option Exit, tap on it to complete

Your log will be deleted and you get close to 1GB space in your device storage.

Again, I'm not responsible for anything that goes wrong as I'm not an expert in this. But it definitely worked for me on my SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE1

However, are there any side-effects to deleting the dumpstate/logcat?

Hi i owned gt-n7000 and ive got this problem..i can no longer receive msg anymore nor install apps,as it says "error running out of space" eventhough i deleted items and apps in my phone it is still the same...so itried to search in an internet as i dont have budget to fix my phone through cellphone experts and i found this site...wow! I tried it *#9900*# delete logcat and boom wow! It works now!!! I find time to post just to thank u for helping and solving my problem..im just a lady..can't believe i can fix it without extra costs!
