Accessories SD Card - what are those classes? Links appreciated.

Hi - what is the difference between these "classes" of microSD cards? Can I be sure that if I buy microSD card it will work with my HTC Desire?

I would be grateful if you post some links to appropriate cards .

the classes refer to the write speed on the card (class 2= min of 2Mbps, 4= min 4mbps), but the better the class the better the read speed also.

if you compare the write and access times of the card that came with the Desire (mine was a class2) with a class6 card you will notice a huge difference. Especially if transferring data over the usb (e.g. loading music).

A minimum of a class6 card is probably advisable. an 8gb class6 costs around

The class specifies the minimum speed at which the card will transfer data.

A class 2 card might be just as fast as a class 6, however it does not have to be. A flash maker can, if they like, make a micro SD that transfers at 12MB/s and sell it as a class 2, 4, or 6 equally legitimately.

Yes, in fact I just ordered the exact same one (the 8GB version) to replace the 4gb class 2 that come with the phone.

sure, but it is worth a look. When I was looking I found this:

I have used them before with no worries.

erm, now I may have to get a 16Gb card (or maybe a 32!) as it has been rooted and 'apps 2 sd' is available...

Just don't want to get a class 6, if it's not necessary for the HTC Desire . . .

Yes it is very noticeable. You will see the difference in the time it takes to simply drag n drop albums or video onto it. As above, a class 2 could be as fast as a class6, but it is very unlikely. A class6 is a guaranteed minimum speed.

Can't say i've noticed any issues with any of my devices using Class II

Transferring over a few albums or videos only takes a few brief moments so unless I was trying to fill a 32GB card in one go I can't see the rush

i changed my 4 gig class 2 that came with my desire for an 8 gig class 6 and it does feel a little faster. Maybe just a placebo effect but either way i'm happy

Does the class 6 read/write quicker by the phone itself? I understand its quicker loading mp3's/files etc to & from your pc but will it be any quicker accessing files by the phone itself?

I got a Kingston 8GB class 4 and I do notice a slight slow down when in gallery or when installing apps as Im using apps2sd now so SD speed will effect installs. I only paid
