Display Exif caption with photo

I have a collection of more than 4000 slides of trains and engines which I took in the 70's. I have scanned and indexed them and they are all sitting on my laptop. Each image is a JPG file and I have placed a detailed description in the ImageDescription (caption) field in the IFD0 segment of the Exif data in the file. For example one slide has description 'Fri 3 Aug 1973. LMS Class 5MT 2-6-0 No 42968 at Barry Scrap Yard.'

On my laptop I use Photoshop Organizer which is fantastic as it allows me to display slide shows of fullscreen images with the description displayed at the bottom.

I have now bought a tablet running Android 4.2 (Jellybean) and have loaded around 100 images on to it to test its capability. The supplied Gallery app displays the images very nicely and quickly, but doesn't do what I want to do - the minimum of which is to display the image and Exif caption at the same time.

Ideally I would store all 4000 photos on the tablet, and be able to select those with a particular word in the title, and display them along with their description. In my example I might want to select all pictures containing 5MT in the title and be able to scroll through each one, showing the photos description alongside or below or within the image.

There are plenty of apps which allow you to display photos, input captions and enhance the image, but I don't want to edit the photos as they already contain the captions.

Other apps allow you to access the Exif data, but without displaying the photo.

The minimum I require is to be able to see the caption and the image at the same time. The nearest I have found so far is something called JPEG Tool which lets me scroll through the photos and click on a menu button to display the Exif data, but the image and data are not displayed at the same time.

I am not expecting the functionality of Photoshop Organiser. Can anyone suggest a suitable app - or am I expecting too much?

Sorry I can't help with your question, but I remember Barry scrap yard (I lived in Dinas Powys in the 70s, and I used to spot trains).
Mike

As I lived in Yorkshire at the time, I went to Barry just a couple of times, and took a couple of rolls-worth of pictures. It was sad to see all those steam engines rotting away. As you probably know there was a happy ending as many of the engines were saved from being cut up and indeed have been preserved, providing the mainstay of all those heritage steam railways in existence.

As to the App, I think I have found exactly what I want. It is called Photo Caption by Sebastien Michel, and is very promising. It links into the Gallery App, and allows you to scroll through photos very quickly, displaying the captions along the bottom. The developer (Seb) tells me a new version is imminent which should allow me to select which photos to display based on the text in the caption. This is real progress!
