Greetings. Im new to android and have the htc hero. Is there any way to select 'vibrate all'? If i put the ringer on vibrate, it will do so when i get a call but when i get a sms, my phone gives no alert whatsoever. Is there a way to fix this at all? Thank you very much.

you have to go into each individual thing and set it's notifications to include vibrate (sms settings, gmail settings, for example). Then you can get a ringer widget from the market, the one i use is SilentMode OnOff, and it lets you toggle between volume on, vibrate mode, or silent mode. Not sure if this is what you're needing. When on vibrate, it will only do vibrate and no sound for all notifications which you have vibrate enabled.

*i think the other widget i used to use was Ringer Toggle or something like that, though i didn't like the way it looked. SilentMode OnOff more conforms to the design of the HTC widgets for wifi, bluetooth, etc.

Just to confirm, with your setup, if you have the sound on, apps like gmail will sound the notification and vibrate, correct?

yes, if i have sound on through the widget, i get the sound and vibrate, and if i set the widget to vibrate, there's no sound, just vibration, and if i set it to silent, i just get the notification in the notification bar and a blinking light if applicable.

dang i keep editing, but the main thing is if you don't set the vibrate in notifications for each thing individually, it won't. For example, i don't have gmail set to make sound or vibrate, because i really don't care that much when i get emails, so my gmail never vibrates or makes sound no matter what.

OK, I might look into that. I was hoping to have my ringer and notifications either sound (no vibrate) / vibrate / nothing at all. It doesn't look like that is possible. Thanks for the tip though.

yeah, i'm not aware of any way that's possible like you describe. what you're wanting isn't impossible, but there's probably not an app for it. It would require an app that would access the settings of each of the other apps (gmail, sms, handcent, htc mail, and on and on), and change them is all, just making it to work with every app out there that people could be using would be the difficult part. There's definitely nothing i know of native to the phone that can accomplish that as you describe though.
