I think that was in one of the old stock music apps. Everything I've seen has this as a feature in 2011. I would guess that Google removed the cover flow display.
I remember when I first bought my Galaxy Tab 2 with ICS on it, that was included with Google Play Music app. It was a nice feature. I guess it did change when the Tab was updated to Jelly Bean. Some things they should leave as is, if the people prefer it or offer the choice to use one or the other!!!

Might have had a cease and desist from Apple. "This is our idea, we hold the patents for it, no one else can do it.". I've seen open source and third-party apps that do cover flow type things with album art. I've never used Google Music myself as it's not available, so I've not seen this before.
I thought the same thing. Or they simply were tired of being accused of copying everything from iOS. It is ironic that Apple dropped cover flow from iTunes 11.

It's album wall now isn't it? - iTunes 11 and iOS 7. Might be a fashion thing, like cover flow was too 3D and doesn't fit in with flat-UI, solid colours, tiles, Metro, etc. Think cover flow in the Finder disappeared from OS X Mountain Lion as well.
I have the latest. No I think the guys got it right, they more then likely removed it to keep the peace. Though its not the first time apple claimed they invented something. I think PicLens was the first to make the idea known. Not the same thing but along the same lines.
Anyways I ended up using fusion with gfsmount. fusion has the nice 3d effect and gfsmount allows you to use google play as a files system.
