Seeing that I haven't seen a post on Android forums for Metro pcs Mega (SGH-M819N), I thought I'd make one.

Here's the easiest way to root and have touch recovery that works on our Metro version of the Mega (SGH-M819N).

MAKE SURE TO BACK UP YOUR ROM FIRST THING AFTER ROOTING AND INSTALLING THE RECOVERY!!

I do not take any claim of ownership or creation of these tools. You are doing this at your own risk! THIS WILL YOUR VOID WARRANTY.

Downloads you will need:

Odin:http://d-h.st/UIo

TWRP (thanks to Silesh.Nair on XDA for this): http://www.mediafire.com/download/6w3p63g9g5xnve9/twrp_2.6.3.5.tar

How to install Recovery using odin:

1. Download mode: you do this by turning off the phone, Then hold down the power - volume down and home keys. it will vibrate than a WARNING!! screen comes up. Press your Volume up key to get into "Download Mode" than plug the phone into your computer.

2. Installing Recovery through odin:
open odin, click the "BL" button find your recovery.tar (that you downloaded from the Recovery link above.) select it. let odin do its thing. You should now have recovery!!!

Once you have the recovery installed. Unplug your phone. Boot into Recovery (to get into recovery. turn the phone off hold down the Power Button, the Volume UP Button and the Home Button all at the same time till it vibrates than a black screen comes up with little blue letters in the upper left corner that say "booting recovery" with the Samsung logo. let go of all the buttons when that screen comes up and wait for it to go into recovery) Do a backup of your Current ROM. It will ask you if you want to ROOT. select yes. Let it ROOT and than back up your ROM.

After that You'll want to update your TWRP Download with this zip (also a Silesh.Nair prodcut) : http://www.mediafire.com/download/y29walf0h4ipo64/twrp_2.7.0.5.zip

Put it on your sd card or some were you can find it from Recovery. Then install it. Reboot TWRP. you should now be up to date.

Good luck all!! :D

Hey

Excuse my ignorance ,but...
If I was to root my mega with Kingo, will I still be able to get KitKat ?

Thanks

what do you mean? if you are asking if you will get over the air updates from Samsung. No it voids your warranty. You'd have to wait till someone uploads it on the forums.

Right now I don't think Samsung has said they will be updating the Mega to KItKat.

Oh wow it worked.

First I thought your back up was a stock rom so I didn't try. But it actully is a NAND backup right?

After I messed up, I first tried to flash CM11 but installation was failed so I didn't try flashing another rom.

But after checking more thread, your cleanbackup is TWRP restore files so I gave it a try and it worked.

You saved my Mega :) Thanks!!

how do you install the recovery?

has to be installed through a program called odin. you do this by putting the phone into download mode (turn off phone, hold down the power - volume down and home keys than plug in the phone to your computer, than open odin and click on the AP button. find the recovery tar and select it. Let it do its thing. once its done you should have custom recovery.

Again, as bnb25 stated @ original post. DO NOT install files from the XDA root/recovery thread. Only trust tested files on this thread only.

I accidentally installed the boot.img.tar file from the XDA thread and lost the WIFI capability then eventually lost the whole OS ><

bnb25,

Do you know if CWM recovery is also working with Metro Mega?

I am trying to create a base rom for Mega but TWRP nand backup has their own naming (.win000, win001).

I searched around for coversion method but it's not working and they are not compatible with android kitchen.

Thus, I am thinking about to install CWM instead of TWRP, but before install I want to be careful.. eh.. certainly not want to repeat the mistake -_-;;

Edit)

I just went ahead and odin'ed CWM recovery version. CWM works as well :)

The buttons are little bit different than LG devices though... instead of power button the home button is select and power button is cancel. Almost got me to wipe out data ><

I am making NAND backup of CWM. Hope I can get kitchen going on after this.

ha I was going to answer you question before reading the whole thing. I would have told you what you said lol

I never really liked CWM. I saw on xda mega forums that someone has come up with touch CWM. I haven't tried it. [i9200/i9205][CWM Advanced Edition] PhilZ Touch - xda-developers

Well I got used on CWM and its nand back up (easy to work with kitchen) so I am sticking with CWM :)

I already set up kitchen and cooked Metro Mega base rom (bloated, zipalign, deodexed).

I am flashing it now -.-v

I know we already have CM11 and rom from others but it's good to have a rom from local isn't it?

Wish me luck lol

edit)

1st attemp - install error, script fixed

2nd attemp - install success, but bricks -_-;; i think symlinks and permissions are missing...

I'm in need of some assistance.
I have my Galaxy Mega on Metro Pcs. Woke up today and decided to root it or at least ( attempt ) to root it myself. I looked up a couple tutorials and eventually did it. BUT, due to me being inexperienced I didn't make a "backup" of anything.

So now, I'm stuck with a Galaxy Mega that seems to be rooted on another platform other than Metro's. I also am unable to use the Wifi feature, and it seems that I can't transfer files via USB - PC

I tried reverting my mistake but I don't think I'm flashing the right thing. Can someone please guide me in the right direction as to flashing this Mega back to the way it was. I don't want to bother with the root anymore, I just want the phone back to the way it was.

I'd really appreciate any help you gentlemen could give me.

yeah thats not for the metro versoin. do you have a custom recovery on it?

I didn't make any backups. I don't have any sort of custom recovery of the sort. I know it was foolish of me and I am usually more carefully, especially with this type of stuff.
Is there anything I can do? Not having Wifi and no way to connect via usb is a great downside.

Still didn't work. I redid the who root process & flashed the recovery from this post, Odin said it passed.

I still don't have a Wifi Connection on the Phone.
Anything else? This really is depressing, a phone with no wifi connection is frustrating sometimes.

have you tried using kies?

can you get into recovery now? if so try flashing another ROM.

(ROM) MegaFire H2 Deodex i9205 V3 - xda-developers

to get into recovery: turn the phone off. than hold down the power button the home key and the volume up key.

if you get into recovery. do a backup so that the recovery creates a backup folder. make sure you have it set to backup to your external sd card. ones you do that go into the sd card. download and unzip this zip file. put the contents into the recovery backup folder. than go back into recover and do a restore with it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4kEgjurpDOLMzFrd2h5WkZFc2M/edit?usp=sharing

When I press; Home Button + Power Button + Volume Down I get into a "download mode" sequence, the only option I see there is to continue ( volume up ) or cancel ( volume down )

When I press Volume Up it goes into download mode. When I was in Odin, Odin recognized the phone and "Added!" it to the message box.
I will try flashing the ROM you presented, but when I do that. Can I use Odin or should I use something else to flash the Rom..
As well as, how do I save a backup. I don't see an option for that in the "download mode"

Ps. I really appreciate your assistance, Thanks alot man. I hope I can get this working..

an easier way to get into recovery is through an app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.siriusapplications.quickboot
