Which Adaptor to Connect Monitor?

I'm having difficulty finding the correct adaptor to connect my Note 3 to my computer monitor ....

I have an HDMI. cable that plugs into my monitor, with Mini.hdmi. on the other end, and the USB 3.0 charging adaptor that connects to my Note 3, with the USB on the other end that connects to the AC. plug.

I looked closely at the picture of that device, and it looks just like what they have at Radio Shack and Staples, which will not work for me.

The HDMI plug on the adaptor looks like it is too big. My HDMI cable connects to my monitor (I already have that cable), and the other end is very small. Says HDMI on the small end, but looks like a very small USB connector, but will not fit my Note 3.

I already have the USB 3.0 cable for my Note 3, which is used for the charger.

You need to look for an 11-pin MHL adapter for the Note 3. These are the only ones that will work with the Note 3.

If you have an older MHL regular 5-pin microUSB head connector, you can just look for a 5-pin to 11-pin adapter head.

Edit: Here is what a 5-pin head and 11-pin head look like. They are not the same and are completely different.

I called Samsung Support and they told me exactly what I need and that I would find the "HDMI Dongle" at Best Buy.

Sure enough ... I rode my bicycle to the next town, and they had only one left! I had to get a special cable in addition (large HDMI at both ends).

Also picked up a Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard, which I am typing on right now.

I dug out my ancient Bluetooth Mouse (Macally BT-Mouse-Jr) and it's working with my Note 3 just fine.

This Bluetooth Keyboard is much easier to type with than my Apple keyboard that came with my MacPro desktop.

There are a couple ways you can connect to your monitor:

MHL adapter (as was mentioned earlier). Here is the official Samsung one:
MHL 2.0 HDTV Smart Adapter

Or, if you wanted a wireless mirroring experience, you can use the AllShare Cast Wireless adapter:
Samsung WI-FI All-Share Cast Hub, Wireless HDMI Display Adapter (Black)

I loved my Alllshare initially, but I've had issues lately connecting my Galaxy Note 8 (which initially connected without any problems). There have been mixed reviews about the Allshare, but it has worked fine with my Note 3.

Now, if you truly want to get into some great multitasking, I'd suggest this:

Nice. I am all about less expensive accessories, even if non-oem, as long as they work.

Only thing that concerns me now is, I also have some non-oem accessories, but with the reports of samsung adding something in the kit kat update that prevents knockoff sview cases from working, I wonder if they will eventually block non-oem mhl cables or other accessories from working. I really hope they don't, but it's something I'm watching out for.

I don't think they can block non-OEM MHL adapters from working. Unless they change the pin mappings on the device itself.

Hope so NG. Hated seeing the fact that they were blocking any non-oem accessory. I have been sold on believing in Samsung, but not if they decide to follow completely in Apple footsteps.

Do you know if audio is available on the Smart dock adapter? If so, is it just stereo or full multichannel PCM? I realize that content will determine which is available, but if the source is multichannel, would it be passed over the HDMI cable?

Can anyone explain the claim by some that the new mhl 2.0 adapter won't allow connection to an AVR between the phone and display, whereas the older adapter didn't have that restriction? I have this issue between my PC and displays, when trying to view HD protected content. Everything else displays just fine. HDCP issues I'm sure...

This is important to me and I would like to know more before buying a lot of new adapters and cables. Product descriptions I've seen don't give a lot of details in this regard.

Another related question is about viewing the 4K video this phablet (Note 3) is supposed to be able to take.

Is copying the video to another device, like a PC required, or will one of the mhl cables allow passing the 4K video directly to a display that supports that resolution. Since the Note 3 only has a 1920x1080 display, even 4K video played back on the phone itself must be downrezed somehow.

Smart dock connects via standard sized HDMI from dock to TV/monitor and last time I used it, it definitely transmits audio. Unfortunately, I've never tried connecting to my Home Theater receiver, so I can't tell you if it transmits multi-channel PCM. Thing is, I'd imagine that it does because if you go into your Settings>DeviceTab>Sound, there is an option at the bottom that allows you to change the HDMI audio output between stereo and surround.
