Root [Virgin Mobile] Sluggish After 4.3 Update

I used the stickied ROM (stock rooted with Knox disabled) to update to 4.3. Ever since, the phone has been crazy laggy. The keyboard takes forever to pop up, and swyping lags terribly. Evening going from one app to another lags. Games lag. Everything feels significantly less smooth.

I didn't have any of these issues prior to the update. I wiped my cache/dvlak and re-flashed the ROM but it is just as bad.

Any suggestions? Anyone have this issue?

The phone feels slower now than the HTC EVO V 4G...which is embarassing

HTC EVO 3D was fast, but back on subject, you know that 4.1 should run faster than 4.3, people all over have the same issue on this phone, its just the matter of using your root to quicken your phone, I would change the clocks via trickster mod, or no frills cpu control, but for a more complex way of quacking up your phone I would personally look into using pimp my rom and playing with settings of your choice, I personally disabled v sync, changed dalivic heap memory settings and did some other tweaks, and I can say that they work, makes stock 4.3 super zippy, lastly, if you can pony up the money I would buy seeder from the market and set it to aggressive, to add more entropy. These tweaks personally worked for me and may be different for you and how much battery you are willing to give up for performance, I bought a 7000mah battery from amazon, and im content in general, but want a more zippy more responsive statusbar, hope this helps!

The HTC evo3d isn’t that much slower, it has a dual core snapdragon s3processor @1.2 ghz, with the scorpion architecture, also its gpu is practically an underclocked version as the the one on our phone, I had that phone and loved it to death, until I dropped it in water, the problem with that phone was rooting and the proprietary kernel and locked bootloader and other radio interference problems, but design wise, I would prefer it to the s3, the 3d and all,

Thanks for the info - the issue isn't so much that the 3D was almost as fast, but that 4.1 was much faster than 4.3. The GS3 felt much faster than the 3D when it was on 4.1, but now actually feels slower (on 4.3).

Was the 4.3 port sloppy? You mention that 4.3 is slower than 4.1, is there a specific reason why? Seems odd that I have to install all these battery draining programs just to get it to the same speed as it was on a lower version of android...

The 4.3 on here has to options deodexed which is basically 100% stock 4.3 and odexed which is almost stock, has certain things moved or changed ready for modding

Besides that I'm almost 100% sure nothing else was done

Also the 4.3 Roms on here arnt ports, except the carbon ROM I believe that's listed as a port, the other ones are sprint s3 Roms which is exactly what our device is, the assert lines were just edited to allow u to flash it on this VM one

First, the standard question- which recovery are you using? Would really recommend Philz if you aren't already, then from recovery choose Wipe Data/Factory Reset-->Clean to Install New ROM-->Install Zip and then reflash the ROM.Once it boots, let things "settle" for about ten minutes-don't do anything, not even WiFi setup. Then feel free to get everything set up to your liking. My buddy @jdsingle76 just tweaked the stock ROM to remove Knox, he didn't build from scratch; that doesn't mean he didn't put in a lot of hard work though in order to bring us a great stock ROM option.

Technically, that would be an OEM skin, and yes, it does suck, HTC does the same thing with their stupid Sense overlay, but TouchWiz is by far the worst. Port is mainly used to describe someone taking an existing ROM and rebuilding it for a specific set of users; what we do here for VM is more of just modifying as opposed to porting.

With that definition, I don't know if those would be ports or not.

Yeah, I had a touch of semantics nerd going on this morning. I don't know that port vs. modified truly matters in our case. An example of my understanding of what a "port" actually is would be taking a ROM available for the S4 and making it available for the S3, like what bthorne79 has done with OctoKat on XDA. I also think of it in terms of being an "unofficial" version, as opposed to a version developed for a specific device or devices by the dev team. By that definition, the current Carbon KitKat would be a port I guess, since the Carbon team hasn't released official builds for 4.4.x yet, even though their source code is available for others to use. Since we generally use ROM's that are already available for the S3 and just modify them for our use, whether it is as simple as just removing/modifying the asserts or going further and adding in APN fixes, Virgin Mobile carrier info, alternate kernels, etc., I just think of that as falling under the "modified" classification. Again, personal preference, I don't think anyone on this forum will truly care if a ROM is referred to by one term or the other, and I think we all understand what is meant regardless of which term is used!

Port has i understand it would be to take a Rom say the HTC Sense 5 and porting it to a device not even ment for sense say the S3 line. you ported it to the S3.

taking touchwiz S4 kitkat and tweaking for use on the S3 is what i call back-porting the result is an unofficial S3 Rom. then we simply modify it for are use.

Unless it was built with our hardware in mind it is a port, not bashing on custom rims but most roms with higher versions of android past 4.3 have slower notification bar accuracy and responsiveness, I a gamer feel the stock Rom with pimp my rom tweaks and S eeder or dkp are faster and smoother than any rom claiming to be smooth, just a quick flick of that notification bar and you can tell, but other than that the battery life savings claim is true for the most part

Im not sure but I believe you have that backwards. I think odex is completely stock because it keeps all of it's odex files intact while deodexed is made for customizing. That's why most custom ROMS do not have odexed files.
