Anybody try tethering this yet?

Are you using PDAnet, Easytethering or went with Verizon option?

What do you guys think?

How fast are you speeds?

Post up what program your using and your DL and UL speeds if you know them

So i plugged my phone into laptop to try and tether..

it said it cant find software and i did not get any disc with my phone..

anybody else get a disc?

I'd like to know too. I want to see if it takes you to the Verizon site and tries to get you to add on the Mobile Broadband Connect option to your bill or if it just works. If it does, I'll just use PDAnet, but it's be nice to use something stock and quote-unquote "legit" for once

I've searched and cant come up with a clear answer: I have the $30 data plan on my phone, can I tether without additional cost?

Someone will just have to test out. I'll have mine in the morning when I go grab it from my Best Buy store. If no one has answered by then, I'll let you all know.

i went to verizon and asked...

they pulled up my number and account

said it was $25 then said that was for data and voice

then said $10 for 5GB of data

i just tried it just by going thru the option on the phone ...it installed several drivers but failed to install the "HTC modem" driver...however.....it was able to work...i was tethered and online with fairly quick speeds....no other software installed BTW

2) Verizon doesn't have the parts in place for us to start using it ( it's coming, but might be a few months)

Of course the hardware and software is ready, but the verizon network cant control or monitor it yet. Yes, rooted phones bypass this...

After talking with CSR on phone..

The $25 plan is for us who are running the $29.99 data plan

The $10 plan is for the corporate data plans that are $44.99

So she said it just evens it out and every one is paying $54 a month for Data..

EasyTether is $10, one time fee and comes with software to run on your pc and an app to run on your android device. It worked great with my eris, its what i'll be using until wireless tethering is an option via root.

u can always just activate tethering only when u need to....verizon will pro-rate it....ive done that before...called them up to have it activated when i was going out of town....then called them back when i got home...only ended up costing me like 3-4 dollars

Why on earth would you pay verizon all that money? Just get EASYTETHER via the app store, trust me. It will save you lots of $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Yeah but will VZW know you tethered the phone to your computer and charge you the fee anyway, or worse some outrageous penalty?

Personally I feel that if we're paying for 5GB a month, they shouldn't be concerned with how we use it as long as it doesn't break the law.

verizon can't tell that you are tethering unless they look very closely at your activity, which they probably wouldn't do unless you were constantly using a lot of data. Even then, as long as you are mostly surfing, they still can't tell.

Alright, fair enough. I take some online classes, so mainly I just need to hop on occasionally (if I don't have wireless available) and post an assignment. The vast majority of the time I will have other internet capabilities.

I've been with Verizon for 8 years and spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on their service. If I do get caught and they threaten me with something, I'm sure I can plead ignorance and get them to let me off with a warning.

So if I download easytether.

Then i hook up phone to usb on laptop..

Do i just start the easytether app and it does the rest, or do i pull down notification window and change it like you would if you had mobile broadband?

They just want to charge you if they have to hold your hand while tethering. Other phones have wireless tethering built right in, no additional monthly fee required. Eventually i think android will have it as a built in feature as well, but it probably won't happen until the 4g network is in place.

Summary: Use easytether, pay $10 and forget about paying a monthly fee for portable internet access.
