I don't get any notification to update on mine when I go to settings about phone..software update I unchecked the Auto update box.....am not downloading 4.3

I finally upgraded (after my inability to kill the never ending update notice interruptus on Sprint) and everything seems to be working just fine after a few days of testing and usage. As much as I hated doing the factory reset prior to the update, it made me clean up my phone and optimize my various touch wiz screens and widgets. The only downside was finding out how unreliable Kies was at backups. I lost most of my call log, text messages and Snotes. I also lost all my visual voicemail. I stopped checking on my McAfee backup when I got my gnote2. Big mistake. It was still set on my old phone. Doh! Anybody have any suggestions for a non Kies backup of Snotes that doesn't require rooting?

KIES is definitely flaky. But for me, I was able to restore all my S Notes. I discovered the S Cloud backup failed with a lot of errors when trying to open any of them. But when restored with KIES 3, all my notes are fine. All my call logs and SMS were backed up via My Phone Explorer. I also used My BackupPro as a secondary on device backup. Contacts and Calendar through Outlook/Outlook.com. Unfortunately with backups, one needs to employ different things to ensure data integrity.

Thanks very much to everyone on this forum, your advice was appreciated. Following the 4.3 upgrade I was seeing terrible battery life (~7-8 hours on a charge) and also the lag turning on the screen. I did a factory reset (not a full hard reset) and I'm thrilled to report that right this moment my battery is showing 1 day 5 hours of usage and I'm still at 28% charge. Now THAT'S the battery life I used to know and love on my Note 2!! For me it was definitely the Android Services: between the 4.3 upgrade and the wipe, it was typically hogging close to 30% of battery power. Now it's back to being negligible. And the screen lagginess seems better too, although that's a little harder to judge. Thanks again everyone!

MMS between iPhones and others has always been a problem, and Apple refuses to address it. (It's their problem - they made their own protocol, and it doesn't work with the rest of the world.) You're just lucky that you never ran into it before.

Seems to be a bug with Android OS or Services. Every time my battery takes a very heavy hit, these are the main culprits as they keep the device awake and prevent it from going into a deep sleep. Completely shut down and power on the device to see if that resolves it. Also try clearing out the cache partition.

-Wifi seems to be unstable all the time when I'm home.

Reboot your router and see if it clears it up. Otherwise power cycle your entire network.

My phones battery is horrible now after the update. That's the only thing that's bad that I've noticed. Will they fix this issue?

I don't use Google Music. Though it seems to be some buggy issue with the firmware itself. I know my music on the card stutter or cuts in/out and gets pretty annoying. But it's random. Sometimes it plays fine with no issue. Other times, it'll just go crazy stuttering, pausing, cuts in/out. Never figured out the cause of it.

I am having problems with the sound (all sound) getting so soft that you can barely hear them. Notifications can barely be heard when in my pocket. If I turn the phone off and then back on, sound is normal, but after a period of time it goes back to very soft. All sound levels are set at their max. Don't know how long it works before going to softness, I only find out when I barely hear notifications or calls. Only fix hs been to turn the phone off and back on. This started with the 4.3 update. Any ideas???

It updated & installed fine until the last bit it was optimizing apps for this upgrade & mentioned a few errors. Basically every 5 seconds or so I keep getting this error message at the bottom of my screen: "I'm sorry, Unknown error program, will exit". The phone works & still runs, it just keeps producing this constantly.

I have no idea what the problem is or what to do about it. If someone could help I would appreciate it very much. Sorry for the trouble. Thanks.

Try to back up all your stuff. Then press volume down + power until you are in recovery mode. If that doesn't get you in try vol down + home button + power. Then wipe/factory reset and clear cache.

I assume you are stock right?
Not rooted or modified?

Okay, I've decided to make the jump to 4.3 and will most likely do it on the weekend as that is when my device is not in much use and can afford the downtime. Provided nothing surprising shows up. Also give me time to prep the device for a clean install of 4.3.

My reason is that I ran out of device storage on the apps I do use and need as well as leisure (and it's a total PITA to constantly uninstall and reinstall apps). Updates are starting to bugger up because of device storage being unavailable. So the option to move apps to SD will be taking preference over other preferences.

I think (hope) I can live with the features either being moved, replaced or removed. Either way, I found a 4.1.2 ROM specific to my device. So if it gets too unbearable, I have a fall back plan in place too.

I'll let you know once I've updated and start playing with it. I'm hoping it won't trash my device or make me regret the decision.

. For anyone taking the upgrade just for the move apps to SD feature. IF you phone is rooted. You can use a app called !ink2sd. While it can not move the entire app to SD. It does move most of the data, including library's if there are any. I have installed over 60 apps and still have plenty of room. External SD must have two partitions in order for it to work. But its no big deal to repartition you're card. Its a great app and its free.

Correction: this will put the unit in Download mode.

To get to Android Recover Console, you need to press the Volume UP + Home button + Power.

Another annoying thing I've found since the update is when you play some music the default volume is really low. As soon as you turn it up, you get the warning about volume levels etc and you actually have to click 'ok' to the warning now. Every...single...time.

Could they not have at least included a 'Don't show me this message again' checkbox, or god forbid just left it as a temporary pop-up that disappears after a second like on 4.2?!

Thank you very much for the reply. Yes I have a stock, non-rooted phone. I got so peed off, my phone also constantly lagged, camera app would barely function, phone become nearly unusable that I did a factory reset.

When the phone booted up & initialized after the reset, it started to automatically restore my apps, but unfortunately only around 1/4 of them maybe, a lot of paid apps I don't seem to be able to reload back onto my phone (I looked in 'My Apps' in the google play store) and most of my apps aren't there that were on my phone before I did the factory reset. Also lost all my S-Notes. Is there anywhere that they would of been backed up automatically that I could put back onto my phone (SNotes I'm talking about). Again, thank you very much, appreciate it heaps.

P.S. Also notice the font size is now too big compared to how it was with 4.1.2 (my previous firmware version before the upgrade to 4.3).

I had the same problem after the 4.3 update until i installed two wonderful apps Battery Doctor and Greenify which has resolved the massive battery drainage after the update and now I'm able to to use my Note 2 for 24 hrs with one full recharge with moderate to heavy usage.Download both these apps and then move them along with all your downloaded apps to the 64GB sd card and then reboot your phone to complete the process.

Battery Doctor helps you shutdown all apps which are running in the background without your knowledge and draining your battery. Run it frequently during the day and once compulsory just before you go to sleep.

Greenify has been modified to work on non rooted phones, its helps you hibernate all your downloaded apps indefinitely in the process saves precious battery power until you run them as per your convenience.Hibernate any app manually after closing it is essential.Wi-fi GPS Bluetooth Mobile data should be turned off when not in use.This has worked for me hope it does for you too.

It's on the left side of the space bar. The button that let's you select keyboard, voice, settings etc. You should see a clipboard icon. Click on that to access it.

My update: I had planned on not updating to 4.3 for quite some time, but I accidentally set the update to install when I thought I was deferring the update and could not stop it once it began. That was one week ago today. I had asked Neograndizer to outline the steps for pre- and post-update, which he graciously provided, and I had it down step by step, but was caught unprepared given my "accident". I had no backups, etc.

Cutting to the chase. I am having no problems with it at all. Im not even noticing much in terms of battery. I did wipe the cache partition per NeoG. I have not needed to do a factory reset. Coincidentally, I bought the zerloemon extended battery in case of quick battery draw for when I was originally going to update it. I just received the battery and am charging it for initial use now.

Not much else to say really that hasnt been said about the new appearance. Not having much issue with this.

I do have a question or two: are there any setting changes that should be implemented immediately post-update vis a vis the update to 4.3? Was anything reset to default that I need to know? Or any other optimizing tweaks that I should do in this version?
