Upgrade from Moto Droid Razr HD Maxx

I'm wondering if you guys think the Moto x is a good upgrade from a Droid Razr Maxx HD. I'm thinking off-contract (to keep unlimited data) and the developer edition.

Really my only concern is how difficult it is to root with 4.4 and about the battery life (since I got the maxx). Thanks for any insight.

i just upgraded this past month from a Razr Maxx, and i find the Moto X to be superior in just about every way imaginable.

faster, smoother, better tactile, better everything.

and i'm actually getting about the same battery life as i did on my Maxx. and that surprises me more than anything!

i like this phone so much that i bought one for my wife as well.

I went from a Razr HD (not Maxx) to the X, the Razr is a very capable phone but the X blows it out of the water. I got the DE off contract, couldn't be happier with it.

My only "complaint" about it is the back material, it's slippery (for me). I got a TPU case and all is right with the world.

It's a very nice phone but the battery life is nowhere close to the Maxx HD. Seems like only half as much battery.

The developer edition should not be as much an issue to root. The only issue is that each version of Android seems to be getting harder to root, with fewer exploits. That said, people always seem to find them.

What's great about the dev edition is that you will always be able to return it to stock. Motorola has a site where dev edition users can download the firmware files necessary for fastboot to return the phone to stock. That's not always the case with a locked bootloader phone.

Personally, I like the battery of the Droid Maxx, but I am sure that I could get by with the Moto X if there was no such thing as a Droid Maxx. Plugging in while I drive, or eat dinner (which I don't feel the need to do now) - no problem.

my moto x's battery wasn't as good as my maxx's at first. but after a few cycles, a few weeks after owning it, it's every bit as good as my maxx, and really, probably better.

when i have the mobile radio on with my maxx, the battery falls very quickly, whereas it hardly falls at all with the x.

i've had the moto x for about 4 weeks now, and i'm actually getting as good, and probably better battery life than i do with my maxx. it doesn't seem to take as much battery to operate....just seems to be more efficient.

I charge overnight with my X powered off. I power on just before leaving the house at around 6:15am and when I plug in at night I still have juice left. That's really all I require from a device. I don't like to have to be concerned with looking for an outlet during the day and the Moto X gives me that.

I think some of you are mixed up with different versions of Maxx.

There was the OG Droid Razr Maxx (2011) and then Droid Razr Maxx HD (2012). they both have 3300mAh battery but Maxx HD has better more efficient S4 chipset. And lastly there is Droid Maxx (2013) with the same chipset as Moto X but with huge 3500mAh battery. This thing is absolute monster as far as battery life goes.

I think Moto X is similar to OG Razr Maxx or Razr HD (2012) in battery life, but Maxx HD and new Droid Maxx should outlast it quite a bit.

There is no chance in hell the Moto X will out due the battery of the latest Maxx HD. Its double the size (3500 vs 2200).
