Removing stock apps.

Ok heres it goes. About a week ago I rooted my z998 and works great. I deleted the main google apps that I do not use. books, google +, newspaper, music...now the question is. would doing this give any harm? I did remove the chrome, and stock browser but then reinstalled the chrome so that I can transfer it to my sd card. Just curious. Thanks guys.

The ones you deleted wont cause any problems mate. Just dont go mad and start deleting things when you dont know what they do though lol

At least install CWM or TWRP and do a nandroid backup (and make sure it restores - and keep it on at least 2 different computers), so if you really mess something up badly, you can restore to where you are.

There's nothing wrong with bricking your phone (even a hard brick) if you can recover from it. At the very least you learned 2 things - what not to do and how to recover from a brick.

No i dont have a custom rom....never really got into all that. I just like the basics of android and I use nova launcher. Been using go launcher for years and they are becoming way bloated, but here is my next question. I heard I can download an app that can turn user apps to system apps. Whats the best app to use, and whats the benefits.

Think you can just use a file explorer like ES to move the apk from /data/app to /system/app then install it from there.
I suppose a benefit would be if youre short of storage space for user apps?

Thats where I am confused? Like lets say I wanna make lookout app a system app. would I download the explorer program and check it to be system app? or is there coding I have to do. Sorry looking for an easier way. and I also heard that if u have some apps as system apps that it offers more than if it were a user app besides the memory.

In the case of lookout, an anti theft app, it would make sense to put it in system so that a factory reset wont remove it.
In ES, just navigate to the "data" folder, inside that theres "app". Thats where the apk files for downloaded apps are. Find lookout, long press, tap "move to" then find "system" folder, inside tha theres an "app" folder, move it to there.
Then navigate to system, app, and tap on the lookout apk to install it.
Hopefully someone more advanced can confirm if that will work :thumbup:

Ok well since this stuff worked here is another question since I transferred facebook and chrome to a system app when I do updates do they automatically turn to the system app and upgrade within and stay as system app for updates or do i need to reverese transfer each time?

Plus also it seems that on some apps when I do transfer it doesnt load the apps. is it the program?

Ok well I have got it running good the way I want it. Now here is a few other questions if anyone can help with. I really am not liking the stock alarm, and I want to possibly delete that from my cellphone and find one that fits me better. I am currently using the app system app uninstaller and it shows what apps you can remove, and want it recommends not to move but then there are a few that says key module. Would that something I shouldnt touch? I have heard and seen people who rooted their phones remove stuff like the stock alarm, stock music app, and the stock sms and replaced it with an app that they like. Would it harm and be an issue if I remove the alarm for something I may like?

some people are aware how sometimes a new phone the sms stock sucks. If you have a rooted phone. and decide to use another app for sms. Would it effect the system if I delete the stock app? like i said i have a limited app and I would like to free memory. Also would this be toward for the alarm and also the calculator?

I dont know about the alarm, if its maybe connected with the system clock or not.
Calculator should be fine.
Sms, if you remove the stock one you wont recieve txts unless you use an sms app that has an option for the stock sms app being uninstalled.
I know Go Sms has this option but have a look on the app forum for others

Hello guys......I just want to share my experiences on changing system apps i've tested lg e400 l3 using aroma rom and had extracted system apps from other rom which same as aroma rom build which is a jellybean the result is astonishing...lets take beats music player for example..first using es file manager go to extracted file beats
music player and copy it go to device system...app ...now mount as r/w then paste it...now simply delete the stock music player and exit then reboot ur phone.

I did a check on that and I see that its best that if I use the app handscent sms to keep the stock on there. I do not use the Go items anymore since they are bloated with useless apps and functions. One thing I did notice is people stated on this forum and other forums that they say do not uninstall the talk. I did and there is no issues. I am using jellybean.

Here is a question for you all. I am almost done doing some of the tinkering and getting this phone to where I want it. How do I get rid of the annoying AT&T logo on my upper left side of the screen? I been with other providers and never seen this and its very annoying.

The /system area isn't written to by the Play Store except for root install apps.

Everything else goes to /data/app and that's why when you go into the Android app manager you get the option to uninstall updates rather than uninstall the app for system apps.

To ensure apps load correctly, fix permissions.

You can do it from recovery or with this, check out "Fix Permissions"

If it still doesn't run, then it's because the app is trying to write its data relative to the installed location (/system) rather than under /data. Don't try to" fix" that, just avoid making that a system app.

Keeping your /system partition clean of user data is pretty important.

All apps require the exact same permissions. rw-r--r-- and system ownership for system apps.

Same rules apply to a keyboard as any other app - depends on the dev and what they did with respect to other dependencies and assumptions.
