[MOD]App2External_SD (Fixed Duplicate files)

I think I whould put this on F6's thread but it seems dead..... So I figured that installing apps from Google Play, some of the data would install on the internal memory, now known as the external sd card as well as the new internal memory (my 32gb sd card) .... I figured that if you un-mount it and remount it, the external and the internal would display as the sd card.... Is this some kind of a bug? Well, now I don't exactally have to worry about the pesky >516mb internal memory anymore but I just wanted you to the thread to know.

Hello, I managed this to work with the Lg F6.... It works fine. Well with the inefficent storage problem, the link2sd app from google play works great. It moves the apk installments, which is not the data of the apps, to the sd card. I had about 120mb before I did this and got about 540mb at the end. I was so excited that I started a rampage of downloading apps. When I got the inefficent storage notification, I repeated the process and got 420mb back.... Remeber that the link2sd moves partial part of the app installments (again, not the data) to the SD card.

This is true. I did try to download a game and it wouldn't because it stated something along the lines of "do not have enough space on external sd card for extra data" . Which it was actually referring to the internal sd card, because that's how i guess the F3 handles it.

Nope but the instructions are really clear to follow.... What's wrong?
In the part where you download the text file where to you leave it the internal phone store or move it to the SD card? Because I moved it to the sd card and set the permissions with root browser but when I'm in the process to use script manager it tells me I do not have the permissions. If I do get it to open it opens a text editor. I already formated my SD card to fat 32 and deleted the partition.

so the directory you are looking for is in the internal memory which is in /system/etc/init.d and the init.d is the folder. Before you go into the folder itself, hold the folder and there should be a bunch of check boxes... Make sure you check then all of them except the last three on the bottom. Then save it and make sure you download the smanager. After you follow rest of the steps and realise that you cannot execute the file, it is saved as the text file which will have the .txt extension. Removed and try to see if you see the execute button.

Don't forget to thank If I have!

Thank you so much for putting together these instructions; i have been looking for months for a way to do exactly what this tutorial does. I was so thankful for this that i made an account just to reply to this thread. As mentioned in the title, there was a minor flaw in your instructions. if the 11extsd2internalsd file is moved as-is to /system/etc/init.d, then S-manager will not recognize it as a script, but as a text file, so the .txt at the end must be manually removed in order for S-manager to be able to work its magic. This may have only been a problem for my idiot self, but i feel that this step should be included just in case. thank you so much again for this, the one major flaw of the f3 has finally been removed.

Hey next time before u mame a question read the authors post again or atleast read previous posts..... the whole point of this thing is to move the data files automatically yet somr people cant perceive this..... To go around this problem, yoy need to move the apk installments, which can br done by app2sd. The program i recommend you is to use link2sd in google play, which will move the apk installments...

i did all the steps but still get the insufficient storage error.

I've read through this and want to be sure about the 11ext file:

#Credit androidguy1991
sleep 2 mount -o remount,rw /
mkdir -p /data/internal_sd
mount -o bind /storage/sdcard0 /data/internal_sd
mount -t vfat -o umask=0000 /dev/block/vold/179:33 /storage/sdcard0
mount -o bind /data/internal_sd /storage/external_SD

This is the only file I need copied to my SD card?

Just making sure...

tap top left corner with the four squares.
click app2sd
click top right corner
select move all
VERY IMPORTANT!!!! IT WILL CYCLE THROUGH ALL OF THE LISTED APPS BUT DO NOT MOVE TO SD CARD APP MANGER AND SMANAGER!!! THE EXTERNALSD MOD WILL STOP WORKING.

Then check your storage :D

Remember again... Important not to move smanager and appmanager.....
btw some apps like Super Scribblenauts Remix are not able to be moved....

currently Jvene has worked on something that will actually swap out the sd card and the internal memory as a whole so the link2sd app is no longer needed. http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus-f6/819792-proposal-theory-external-sd-storage-solution-f6.html

He need volunteeres so..... If anyone else is interested post something on his tread!

yes your correct... I am pretty sure the file itself is in the .txt format.... Use Es File Viewer or something to delete the .txt and try it..... A little hint that everyone struggled to figure out at their first time!

Oh I also found out that after doing this mod, you can use app2sd programs like link2sd from google play to move some of the app installments from that tiny 1.2gb memory we are given to the sd card itself... Make sure you don't move the Smanager or the link2sd or the mod will not work anymore.

I gotten about 500mb in total by doing this and that annoying inefficent memory error has been disappeared...

just remember, the mod mounts the sd card as the primary partition but in fact it is not.... Just beware that the apps you install will still install on the original internal memory...

Lucas, thank you! I did note the .txt extension problem, and now I can move forward.

I'm hoping to have all this installed & running in the next hour or 2 (hopefully my wife will stay out of my command center while I work). ;)

Many, many thanks to all those who have helped advance the strength of this phone!

ok ive read through this thread and im a lil confused...

im stuck w/ about 29.x gb of internal space now and i try to install an app and i get insufficient storage space or w.e. what i want to get to is getting an app to install correctly, so i read something about app2sd or link2sd i have installed link2sd along w this mod. will this fix my problem and would i be able to get what im looking for w this mod and app?

i have an f6 if that clears anything up

I've given it my best shot. Can't seem to make this mod work, even with 2 factory resets. I've triple-checked instructions, files, settings, etc. with no love for my 32GB card. I'm thinking it's something very simple, but it's ok for now. I don't have that many apps to install anyway, so I'll pay attention for what we all really want, and that's an Unlocked Bootloader!

Thanks guys, I'll be waiting in the wings...

Yes it will...... The swapping of storages is just imitated for the data and the apk installments are actually still stored in the internal storage.

Lol I wish the unlocked bootloader will come out too but we can really expect LG to give it to use easily  ...

Anyways, Whats not working? Does the script not start in the beginning or maybe you can't run the script itself?

Lucas, I wish I knew. SManager has no problem with the script itself, I get no errors at least. I'm thinking maybe the phone just doesn't like the card itself. I've seen other posts about certain SD cards simply being incompatible with some phones. Mine is a brand-new Kingston 32GB card I got from the 'Egg, just for this phone. I erased the thing with Hard Disk Low Level format tool, then used the Minitool Partition Wizard to give it a FAT32 format. I'm at a loss. Also, I'm forgetting that this is the F3 forum, I'm running an F6 (if that makes any real difference). There are other in the F6 forum that haven't had any trouble as well.

Doesn't matter though, I'm still very happy with this phone!
