I kept thinking the Nexus 5 32GB (16Gb seems a lil tight) was

Risks are the newer phones are on contract. They could be blocked at anytime, and I know someone who's handset was blocked because the original owner defaulted on their O2 contract.

Could also be stolen, again getting blocked once you turn it on. Buy from a reputable seller and you should be fine.

Budget wise you'd either go lower with something like a Moto G, or find the extra for the Nexus if you want new

Or try your local CEX for pre owned to avoid eBay risks. I think they guarantee against issues?

Swappa is pretty good, but they're USA only, and I think you're in GB. Someone should start a similar site there.

Buying used from a local shop, if that's an option, is less risky. I don't know if they do that there. A very few shops do here. (I used to.)

I still stick with Samsung (which is why I didn't buy the new Nexus - I really wanted to until I saw who Google had selected to make it), but if they keep going the way they have been the past few months, my next phone may be a Motorola. (They used to make the best phones. We'll see if Google left them alone, or is using them as a cash cow with a name. It's too soon to tell. But I can still stick a SIM in my V551 and if I remembered to top the battery off, I'm good to go.)

Yeah game is another. Ours only has stuff over a year old so maybe they have rules on trade ins?

I'm tempted to just go for the N5 because it's a Nexus but I'm kinda bored with stock android and the alternative devices have better cameras, although I think the same processors.

Thoughts?

(another option is to wait it out. I'm fairly happy with what I have at the moment but I'm not gonna say no to a cheap upgrade )

A HTC One will still cost you more than an N5 (as we're talking unsubsidised prices), so not really an alternative.

Don't get me wrong: I've got a One myself, I think it's a great phone, and have no interest in replacing mine. Overall it probably suits me better than the N5. But if I were buying a phone now I'd almost certainly opt for the N5 instead: newer chipset and almost

Anything else on n5 alternatives? Another thing which I hadn't thought about before is headphones. I feel like my headphones didn't play the same when plugged into my phone compared to my PC. Not sure if it's placebo but if anyone knows of phones with good output (guessing the One would be a good one)

I think that was one of the main concerns of everyone in the US - the X is competing directly with the S4 and the One.

That's just ridiculous if they think it can compete those devices, it's a cut down SoC (dual core), no FHD display and an average camera.

I dunno, the X is a great phone, and from what I hear it performs really well and the camera has improved with the updates.
I know one guy who has an X and would recommend it over the N5.
I think if I had access to Moto Maker, I just might get the X but without it is a really close call.

In the straight on comparison they don't belong in the same price group, with the same amount of storage the Moto X should be priced
