I agree, my daughter has an iPhone 5. When I visited her and used her phone it was like using an itty bitty baby phone. She had a pic of her husband on the front screen but icons were covering it up. Apparently on iphones you can't move the icons they just start from either the bottom or top, forget which one , and just fill the screen in neat little rows. How annoying, but she won't move away from Apple.

I'm reading all this with good humor. There is absolutely no doubt that the Note 2 blows away the I(idiot) phone away in terms of hardware specs and customization. BTW..No offense to your girl.
But, I have learned over the years. No matter how many facts you present. Apple owners are fiercely loyal. Its like trying to talk a alcoholic out of drinking. No matter what benefit's you present. They will just keep drinking. I have a brother who is like this. He prefers the dummed down version of IOS. What you gonna do??lol. You can lead a horse to water. But you can't make him drink...

I appreciate your conclusion, but do not agree on all your points. I have an Iphone5 and a Note II, and have been using both for a while. These days the Iphone5 rests in my desk drawer .

1 - Favourite OS is highly subjective. Some ppl prefer the UI of IOS, and some (like me) Android. There is no objective way of measuring which is better.

2 - Many would argue that bigger is NOT better. I would have loved a Note II with the width and height of the Iphone5 but with the screen size of the NoteII. But of course that is not possible, so I accept the size of the NoteII - but not for the size itself, but for the screen real estate that is possible because of it.

3,4,5,6, - I agree

7 - I do not necessarily agree here. Faster CPU would be better if all other factors were out of the equation. But in the real world, performance is also about system software performance, application software performance, GPUs and mainboard efficiency, RAM performance and you could go on. I have not seen an objective comparison of this, but I know that the Iphone5 is butter smooth - but so is the NoteII most of the time. When it comes to the most smooth experience, I would actually put my bet on the Iphone5 here.

8 - Again - don't look at the RAM alone. Also look at the utilization of the RAM and the size of caches and applications and the efficiency of the system memory management. I have no idea which would be the winner, but I think it would be the NoteII.

9 - Battery capacity is also about battery usage. Having a bigger screen, the Note II will use more power than the Iphone5. But I think you are right that battery lifetime is better on the Note II. But anyway - why not also take into account that the battery can be replaced in the NoteII? In a few years, all batteries wear out. Would you replace the Iphone5 battery? How expensive would that be?

I think additional benefits (important to me) of the NoteII are flexibility in software and configuration, the s-pen, the widget and the customizable home screens and an open platform.

I have Note II and everyone else around me has iPhone including my wife, mom, and sister. I have to say that I would never buy an android phone for my mom or wife. My sister a tech person, so she might like Android but she is Apple to the core and probably will never switch. My niece has a Note II and she had been an Android person since college, but even she said she will need to get an iPad or iPhone next time so she could talk to her friends.

Yes iPhone or iDevice has limitation but it is aim toward the general public. It is true that most people want to be told what to do. The biggest problem I found with Android is that it doesn't work out of the box for every version of the device. You could have a Verizon Note II and it would act differently than an AT&T Note Ii. A bug or feature on the Sprint Note II may be missing from the T-mobile one. Carrier would install annoying software on your phone that you either have to root to remove them or disable them manually. Where if you get an iPhone on AT&T or on Verizon they look exactly the same and have the same OS and apps on it. If there is a bug, it will be fixed because million and million of users across all carriers all over the world will have the same bug.

I have had an iPhone 5 and currently a Note II. I agree with most of your conclusions, but since the upgrade, my Note II battery life SUCKS!!!

Most folks aren't hard core root your phone types. Most smartphone users want a phone that works for them and does what it is supposed to do. My wife has an iPhone and she loves it. She could care less which phone has more ram, or who has the bigger screen. It does all the things she needs it to do and that makes her happy. I myself prefer a little more customization in my phone so I use an Android. It does all the things I need it to do. I have used her iPhone and owned my own iPhone and it did what I needed it to do. She has used my phone and has been happy about its performance.

There is a smartphone and an OS for everyone out there. Let's just be happy with our choices. There is room for everyone lol

I’m going to explain you that why Samsung galaxy Note II is better than Iphone5. Some Iphone lovers told me that Iphone 5 is better than galaxy note II. I told them that’s funny. In my look, Samsung Galaxy Note II is better than Iphone5 . Lets see why –

No.1: Note II has android OS and iphone5 has iOS. We know that android OS is easy to use and favorite to everyone. So, I’m giving full marks to Note II.

No.2: The Dimension of Note II is 5.94 x 3.17 x 0.37 inches (151 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm). And the Dimension of Iphone5 is 4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 inches (123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm). So again Note II is stronger than iPhone5 in this point also.

No.3: Weight of Note II is 182g and iPhone5 is 112g. In this point iPhone5 should win in low weight , whatever. It’s not a big matter.

No.4: Physical size of Note II display is 5.5inches and iPhone5 is 4.0inches. So Note II has big screen size than iPhone5. Big screen will give extra pleasure to users.

No.5: Resolution of Note II is 720 x 1280 pixels and iPhone5 is 640 x 1136 pixels. Note II is better than iPhone5 in resolution also.

No.6: Both of devices has 8mp camera. But the iPhone5 has extra feature in camera. Aperture size: F2.4 and Camera sensor size is 1/3.2". But Note II has latest features like Back-illuminated sensor (BSI), CMOS image sensor, Auto focus, Smile detection, Burst mode, Panorama, Scenes. If we’ll check features of iPhone5 again we’ll get this like Back-illuminated sensor (BSI), Auto focus, Touch to focus, Digital image stabilization, Face detection, Geo tagging, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR), Panorama. So, in this case Iphone5 is better than Note II. But Note II is better than iPhone5 in front camera. It has 1.9mp front camera and iPhone5 has only 1.2mp.

No.7: Note II has Quad core, 1600 MHz, ARM Cortex-A9, which is very high quality. And iPhone 5 has Dual core, 1300 MHz, Apple Swift, which is not stronger than Note II.

No.8: Note II has 2GB ram and iPhone 5 has 1GB ram only. So, in this point Note II is better than iPhone5.

No.9: If we’re looking for battery capacity, I think Note II is more and more better than iPhone5. Lets see, Note II has 40.8 days (980 hours) standby time (2G), 16hours talktime in 3G and 37.1 days (890 hours) stand by time in 3G. But iPhone 5 has only 9.4 days (225 hours) stand by time and 8hours talktime capacity in 3G. Note II has 3100 mAh battery power and iPhone 5 has only 1440 mAh battery power.

So buddies, which one is best?? Of course Galaxy Note II is best. Iphone 5 also a good device but not more than Galaxy Note II.

My ratings for Galaxy Note II is 9.2 out of 10 and iPhone 5 is 8.5 out of 10. What’s about you?

You forgot a few things that is worth considering in favor of iPhone:
1. Build quality

2. Although display has lower resolution, the contrast and brightness are far superior; thus, this gives iPhone much much better outside visibility. Note 2 display is largely useless under sunlight.

3. In addition, iPhone 5 display has more accurate colors, even with MOVIE mode on Note 2.

4. Remember, 720p or whatever it is nowadays is fairly useless number. Even on a 5.5" display, your eyes will never see a difference at appropriate viewing distance. What matters most is whether your eyes can make out the pixels...if you cannot, then the 2nd most important thing about display is contrast ratio, color accuracy, and brightness. 720p or 1080p or 4k are useless IMHO on a phone display. Hell, even 4k TVs are of questionable usefulness.

5. Resale value. Right now, if you were to trade in your phone to your carrier , there is a significant difference in value associated with each phone...Apple tends to be better in this regard.

6. Aftermarket support. Not even close. Have you found an earphone that you can control volume at the mic? No. All headphone/earphones that i have seen are all for iPhones with appropriate volume controls on the mic.

7. Car audio. This may be changing. But, currently, with most cars, if you plug your Note 2 into the USB outlet, your car audio can't read a damn thing. USB is just to charge the phone. Do the same to an iPhone and the car audio system will bring up your playlist, artists, etc. all thru USB.

8. Recovery. I had to wipe my note 2 several times...and it is PIA to put everything back. Apple with their iTunes makes recovery (restore) extremely easy and iTUnes or iCloud remembers all your settings and preferences!

9. Although Exynos 4 sounds impressive, please note that iPhone 5 SWIFT dual core is no pushover. Along with software optimization, despite dual core, @1.3 GHz, and 1GB RAM, it can easily keep out with Exynos 4 on most benchmarks if not better in some, esp. GPU.

10. Software update. iPhone 5 currently is running the latest iOS. What is Note 2 on? We hear rumors of 4.4, but nothing official. This sucks. And unlike iPhone 5, 4.4 will likely be the last software update that we will ever get from Samsung.

These are just from my head...i had both. Now, i have 5S and Note 2.

Bingo. I am in the exact same situation. My wife had an Android phone and tablet, after she play with an iPad she wanted and iPhone because it's just easier.

When people ask me what smart phone they should get, I ask do you want something that just plain works or do you want to tinker?

Actually I just tell them to get an iPhone. The reason is that if they have to ask, they didn't do any research and that usually means they are not really into tinkering their own toys. Now the Galaxy line is almost up to par with iPhone as a use out of the box smartphone, but just to be on the safe side, I told them to get iPhone.

Tinker? So, i assume that you guys are rooted?

If not, then what is there to tinker? Adding widgets? Changing backgrounds? Uploading ripped movies to SD card? Bumping phones? Replacing OEM mail agent? Using a different browser?

What exactly you guys are tinkering that is so complex?

I understand if you guys root. THAT, to me, is tinkering. But, if you are not rooted, then how different are you from the "lemmings"?

And i would love to see stats comparing % of jailbroken iPhones vs. rooted Androids.

I don't root nor jailbreak either phones...but i find it humorous to hear some Android folks proclaim their "tinkering" ability only to find that they run stock OEM software.

I sense a little anger here. Honestly, I am just having fun. Do not mean to offend anyone. Your assumption is correct though. Here is what I did with my phone.
1. Rooted. (The method I used does not trip counter)
2. Used a factory ROM injected with root to downgrade to 4.1.1
3. Did the infamous dialer trick to unlock phone.
4. Used QPST to enable T mobile bands.( Now I have a unlocked phone that can be used on at&t or T mobile or any of their MVNO.)
5. Installed CWM and Mobile Odin to make backups or flash phone.
6. Installed TB and removed or froze all the at&t crapware.
7.Installed link2sd to move(link) apps to ext. SD card for more space on internal.
8. Forgot to mention. Used same factory Roms to up to 4.1.2...
That's where I am staying. Do not want 4.3 and Knox. If something dreadful were to happen(drop phone). I can flash back to factory for warranty. The Roms do not trip the counter.
So now I have better battery life. More space for apps. Faster phone. It's a lean mean fighting machine. Lol. Yes, I could flash one of many custom Roms. But, I kinda like touchwiz. As long as I can get rid of the stuff I do not like about it. Its OK.
As far as IPhone goes. I only know what friends have told me. Its simple. If your OK with simple. God bless ya. I just want my phone to be MY phone as much as possible. Anyway, did not mean to hurt anyone's feelings. I am just having fun. I rib my iPhone friends and they rib me for not being able to put my phone down sometimes..lol . Same as friends on android. They rib too. But, if something goes wrong with thier phone? Ha! Guess who they call..lol

2) There is no Find my phone originally. You could download app, but most of them are really bad comparing to Apple's Find my iPhone. I found one only after tried out 3 different ones. And then with 4.3 update, I could use Android's Device Manager. But no one knows it is even there. Everyone I told at work had no idea it exists.

3) There was no Virtual Voicemail out of the box. You have to find an app that does it. Most of the people I know who owns Android actually had to "call" voicemail to check messages.

4) International keyboard and voice to text. It can do it, but you have to download and configure it. iPhone does it out of the box.

I spent a week playing with my Note II just to make it works normally. My wife or my mom would never do that. So yeah you have do some tinkering if you really want to use Android.

Well, YOUR tinkering is negative. Your type of tinkering is because of deficiencies in Android/Samsung...not a positive aspect of Android.

And this is my point earlier...if you root, then yeah, wonderful...but Apple has jailbreaking.

If you don't root, then all this tinkering aspect is kinda ridiculous because Samsung Touchwiz does not provide any additional USEFUL tinkering.

BTW, your reasons are why i went back to Apple. In addition, Note 2 display outside just plain suck donkey balls!

Icneed, I'm just curious. Why did you buy a note 2 then? What attracted you to it? Did you do any research on the points you make to see if it would meet these needs? Seriously, I can't remember the last time I sent a group message. Then again, I am retired now. I could see that for business.
As far as find my phone. Avast works very well. Of course it works even better if rooted. But, I suppose that is to much work.
International voice to text? Its a simple download in settings. Nothing complex about it at all. Voice mail....Its on my favorite contacts widget on home screen=two taps. Yes, I call it and I am so exhausted afterwards
I am having a hard time trying to understand what is so difficult here. I understand IOS is simple and does some things easier than Android. But all that simplicity comes at a cost. Not even going to try to explain it. Let's just say you do things the almighty apple way or no way.
BTW, not sure why the people you work with do not know about android's device manager? Most everyone I know does. However, it is something that Google should have implemented long ago. That one I'll give you. Either way. The Avast app is far superior.

Performance wise the iPhone 5s wipes the floor with the Note 2.

But I'm a power user so specs and actual performance are very important to me, the Galaxy Note 2 I would rank pretty low right now, compared to new Android devices it's pretty slow and it's showing it's age, however the iPhone 5s performance is comparable to new Android devices.

Also the iPhone 5s camera is allot better, more than a match for most new Android devices, never mind the Note 2.

Better device overall? that depends on the user, I would just say they are very different.

The "best phone" is the one that suits the user... best. A Note 2, lovely as it is, won't be the choice of anyone wanting a pocket-sized handset for example. Everyone's mileage differs.

I have a Note 2, bloody love it. Would have gotten a Note 3, but the Note 2 only cost me 100 bucks, so, when I get a Note 3, by that time they'll probably be up to Note 5, so, I'm good. But yeah, the battery is better than my HTC Thunderbolt, though 4g+5.5 inch screen+Netflix DOES drain it a lot, but not much you can do about that, and I have a flashlight/power pack that works well. Also, its fast, and overall I just love this phone.
