Root [Boost Mobile] [ROM] n00b (B10 based) VIII.II FULL Install 1/23/2013

Wow! Thanks for quick response!

Definitely Warp N860. I'm doing DL to desktop as we speak. When you said "transfer straight to your SD card", do you mean via Bluetooth or USB?

Thanks for the welcome :)
I've messed with my PCs a lot but never had the urge to do anything to the phone... until I stumbled into this forum. You guys have me itchy to get started.

Via USB, definitely the one right way to do it. And you're welcome :D
I was like that with my first Android phone, I waited for over a year before I even rooted it, then 6 months after that I got a custom rom (CM 7.2 :))
Rooting this phone and flashing a new rom (specifically this one) is a great thing to do, you won't regret it. Besides the roms fix most of the issues with the phone too...

No also wipe data factory reset and clear cache even though its flashable straight from stock i aleays rooted first and any of the root methods posted work u may have to try a few times but they work

Just to be sure, are you saying
1) wipe data
2) do a factory reset
3) clear cache
& do it in that order?

I just tried EasyRoot TWRP & got same msg as w/ n00b rom:

--Install /sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to verify whole-file signature
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.

Factory reset sounds good... maybe something has gotten glitched over the months
EDIT: removed a bunch of dithering questions. Just did reset... we'll see

did the factory reset. I'm still getting the same error msg.

Was thinking-- it won't use the ZIP file... is there a rom that comes in a different compression format like RAR or something? Don't know if it would make a difference...

Also, my cell provider is iWireless, not Boost Mobile. The phone is a ZTE N860-- shouldn't make any difference should it?

Also, would one of those superuser apps let me change a setting that could help?

Roms can only be flashed in zip format. Also, that makes a VERY big difference. its a good thing everything failed to install, otherwise you'd lose very important stuff in the phone that you might not be able to get back. If you flash this warp for the Boost warp on the i-wireless variant, you'd lose services like 3G almost permanently. There is a root method, but its different-- and it involves a different rom, specifically my rom.

Go here, and I'll help you out... in fact I have an idea to benefit more users
http://androidforums.com/boost-mobile-warp-all-things-root/747407-i-wireless-kroger-warp-w-root-overclock.html

No more posting in this thread, don't wanna spam the thread as we're about to be on a totally different topic...

EDIT: Welcome to AF GChild78! :) You're very correct about that, but unfortunately we don't have a separate sub-forum for I-Wireless N860 Warps.

Also aimzzz, I'm on Boost, not I-Wireless but one user has a root method for the i-wireless warp that worked for him

EDIT AGAIN: I see you meant the rom not the carrier... I'm not sure why, since I've only continued the project not built it from scratch, but the rom works on Public Mobile as well... its very strange and I have yet to figure out why (I'm the newest dev here--don't hate :p)

hey ya'll, just sayin hello, as most know, I went over to the note 2 (work bought the phone for me), I stopped doing dev work because there are way smarter people than me working on note 2 (there were here too, but I got in on the warp when it first came out so there weren't many roms at the time).

It's good to see there are still people here working on this phone, it's still a great phone for what it costed and it's amazing to see what the community is doing with it still.

Keep up the good work and don't be afraid to be a n00b and mess around with the phone!

Happy tinkering!

When I flashed the Theme's SystemUI.apk it put me in boot loop where the scrollng " Android " splash just hung there. I could feel the phone vibrates and my dashboard at the bottom would light up and go off. I downloaded the behind glass ( ? )( can't remember the name ) theme and flashed it from my sdcard in recovery and rebooted my system, only to hang on the Android splash. I left it to try and boot for 10 minutes before pulling the battery.

Edit: corrected the zip name that I tried to install.
