Help Um, I think this battery issue will be a problem...

From reading several people's battery usage details, I think one of the problems seems to be cell standby%. Mine was very low compared to the OS usage. You can call *228 and press 2 to upgrade your roaming capabilities. Do this at your work and home, where you are generally at most of the time. The battery is strained more when it is struggling to find a good signal.

Glass half-full view:

This phone is so thin and light, adding an extended battery isn't as much of an issue as my previous phones.

Edit:

Not saying this will cure your battery problems, but its worth a shot.l

Don't trust the numbers from cheap chinese batts. There was a really good study showing even a quality seido brand high capacity battery actually had less mah then the stock/oem even though it claimed more. Go with something official from vzw.

EDIT: that battery doesn't seem to be any bigger then stock....it can't have much if any more mah.

Regardless of whether you are using PUSH notifications and getting bad signal strength, when the Incredible gets 16 hours of battery life when my BlackBerry got 48 hours (doing the exact same things and running the exact same apps, more or less), I find it hard to justify keeping the Incredible.

I love the phone and it's beautiful, and I am really sick of BlackBerry, but I do need it to comfortably last at least a day with normal (read: not heavy) usage.

I'm still conditioning the battery. Hopefully things will work out. I don't need 48 hours out of it... but 24 would be nice.

Honestly, I don't recall ever owning a high end touch screen phone that lasted 24 hours. Both my xv6800 and touchpro 2 required daily charging. Blackberries are a different breed. Most of them don't have large touch displays that suck batteries dry. Not to mention most blackberries are very underpowered, so I don't think it fair to compare. The Iphone gets decent battery, but it also doesn't multitask and run third party background tasks.

Unless your on a wifi network and or using a application that requires gps (like maps) it won't use any extra battery. You still got good time off the charge though.

Actually, I do use WiFi for just about eveything except phone calls, so it's active all the time (don't want to waste my 5GB of "unlimited" data if I don't have to :) ) , unless I'm in a location w/o WiFi. It's just about finished recharging, so I plan on running the same types of usage to see how long it will last on the 2nd charge.

You have to let it go through many cycles before it hits optimal performance. You also have to make tweaks and download an app killer.

There are several other things to do like setting push e-mail to every 2 hours.

STOP reviewing the battery after your first charge and not reading the sticky it's getting so ridiculous.

You know - nevermind. Actually you are right. Take it back and give it to someone more educated.

Dang, bro. I guess opinions aren't allowed at your house, huh? I'm simply giving my experience as a piece of data to add to the building consensus that there may be a data issue. Believe me, I'll re-evaluate after 2 or 3 battery cycles, because I want this to work out.

It's just annoying because there are a lot of these threads floating around after one charge and no tweaking.

Everyone should do a little research and work before you tell everyone battery life is pure shit.

But please come back and let us know if it improves after you cycle and tweak.

My battery life has been great as well. I have been playing with it non-stop and the battery has yet to die on me.

Yeah, mine is okay too. I think it just depends what you put on it and how you use it. If you have a bunch of gmail/exchange accounts pushing a lot of emails to you, then it's going to drain faster. If You have a lot of apps with running background processes, then it's going to die faster on you. It's the same with usage. It's just the reality. The more you want to do with it, the faster the battery goes.

First of all, can we ALL just keep this civil? It doesn't matter whether you agree or disagree with someone else's experience. If someone has a complaint or issue with battery performance, it's their right to post it and express it. We will ALL have different experiences, right? It doesn't mean anyone is wrong or right...we're all here to learn from each other, not to insult each other.

And now...on to my experience. I have had mine for a full day now. I charged my INC yesterday for 2 hours, until completely charged. After I set everything up, downloaded all the apps that I wanted, synced my mail, and tried out just about everything, my battery was down to about 50% (and this was after about 4 hours). I didn't freak out, because I knew I was putting it through a lot of use in those 4 hours. It charged overnight, and I've used Slacker, MMS/SMS, phone, internet (not wifi), and some other things (after all, it's a new toy, and I cannot put it down!). My battery is at about 50% again. I just figure that as the "newness" of this thing wears off, I won't be constantly playing with it...therefore, my battery will last longer than it has during its initial use. However, I also fully understand that this phone packs a LOT of power, and therefore, it is obviously going to use a lot of power. We can't keep expecting better & better phones with more and more features without sacrificing SOMETHING. And I think this is the sacrifice. I, for one, am fine with the power consumption. But that's just me.

guys...it's not really valid to start criticizing battery life when you've had the phone for less than a 48 hours. it will take a few charge cycles for the battery to burn in.

that said, i took my inc off the charger this morning at 6:30am, at 3:40pm the battery is down to 70%. a little over 9 hours up time. i had a few calls, wifi on, bt on, activesync doing its thing with email, light web browsing, and just playing around with the phone on occasion. haven't been hammering it, but it has gotten normal use for the most part.

that said, i will be buying a slim extended battery when they become available.

it is the same exact thickness. i believ the wbsite is www.seidioonline.com

That is good news. I am still not sold on Seidio. I read an article that there was a study showing that the stated mAh is not what the tested mAh is.

For those of us not willing to buy a 3rd party battery we can get the stock battery for the Touch Pro 2. It is rated at 1500 mAh and would give you about 15% more battery than the current battery.

Right now I think I am doing well with the battery but in about a 8 months to a year when I need to replace the battery that may be a good option.

On the second charge on mine... took it off the charger about 5 hours ago, and I've played with it for about a hafl hour in that time. Otherwise it's been sitting on my desk in my office, which is a serious dead zone (no bars to one bar) and it's at 80%. At this rate, it shouldn't have any problem making it through the day. I'm not concerned.

Glad to hear that. Hope it shakes out like this for all of us.

this is my second day having it and after 8 hrs of moderate to light use i still have 60% battery remaining. after i have fully charged and fully discharged several more times, watch what programs i have running in the background, and keep an eye on things like brightness etc. this battery will last me just fine until the extended battery is available to me.

What exactly do people expect for battery life?

20 hours? 24 hours? More?

Do you even go home and go to bed to sleep at night and perhaps charge the phone?

I mean, they are creating these type of phones with so many features that unfortunately requires lots of battery.

I would be happy with 6-7 hours battery life for the day. And that's if I am a heavy user. I don't use the phone that much.

If you bought your phone to watch lots of videos, play games, be on the net non-stop, then yes battery will drain on you.

I suggest to buy more batteries and carry with you.

I would never, not in even in my wildest dreams, return this phone due to "battery issue", unless it's extremely obvious.

Like battery dead after 2 hours of use, etc.

I agree 100%!

Talk to some iPhone users about battery. I have a friend that has the iPhone 3Gs and he has to charge it every night. It is just the way of the world with smartphones. Until the batteries get better (and I hear in a year or two a new battery with better life is coming) we will just have to be ok with charging the battery every day. :)

They can't even replace their batteries - locked in the case and have to send to Apple. That right there is a massive deal breaker.

Imagine being on the road and not being able to insert your backup battery.

OUCH
