Root [Verizon] ROM - Hyperdrive RLS7

I havent even figured out all the ins/outs of how to use HD6 yet. and now 7 comes out. So a backup would be the nandroid backup from safestrap?
then to use the wipe option from safestrap and then install the HD7?

I see the OTA suggesting the update, but it sounds from you like doing a full wipe of the safestrap slot is preferred?

I successfully dirty flashed up to RLS7 from 6. YMMV, of course. Make a full Titanium Backup and a Nandroid Backup of the RLS6 slot in Safestrap Recovery. Wipe Dalvik & cache, then flash 7 right over 6. And hope it all works :p

If it doesn't and things get wonky, just go back into Recovery, wipe data, Dalvik and cache, and clean flash 7. Do a Titanium Backup restore and profit :)

I also thought it was time to donate to Sbreen94 again, since he's busy making our lives so much nicer. So I sent him some pizza money ;)

I did the same thing Chief, I love his work. I've tried a few other ROMs and they always take a back seat to HD. I used JB on my Bionic and even though it's a great ROM, I just can't give up my HD! :D

I may be having a couple of bugs related to the dirty flash. My wifi keeps turning back on by itself; but more importantly, I can't get the wireless charging notification to go out. I have turned it on and rebooted. I turned it off and rebooted. On. Reboot. Off. Reboot. And it STILL shows up!

Well, as fast as Kitkat is coming down the pipeline, I expect sBreen to release RLS8 in pretty short order. That will definitely be a clean flash.

if I use TiBu to make a backup of my HD6 slot, and then with safestrap delete the slot and make its again to clean install HD7. is if safe to restore the Tibu backup? probably safe for just apps. but contacts and memos and a number of other things ought to be ok right? Not really sure what changes under the hood with custom rom

Dirty flash didn't work for me either. Had little issues with notifications not working on all apps, a few other minor but annoying things. Did the factory reset and then restored apps only from TiBu and things seem to be working just fine. I don't keep many memos that get backed up but I don't see why it wouldn't be safe to restore those. I'm by far no expert but I would think the issues would lie in restoring data.

Thanks MrClean. One thing gives me pause. you did a factory reset? is that applicable only to a slot or the entire device? If just the slot, how to you factory reset the slot?

I am asking since I sort want to keep my "stock slot" for the time being. there are some things I didnt figure out how to save or port over the safestrap slot.

wouldnt deleting the slot and recreating it.. and a fresh install of HD7 work. Perhaps I dont know what a "dirty flash" is.

I use clockwork mod as my recovery, I wiped my cache, dalvik, and data/restore. Then installed the zip file, waited a good ten minutes until I rebooted. Everything seems to work fine except I cannot connect to my 4G Network. So I went to my access point to reset that but It won't even let me click on the icon to connect to it (Hopefully that makes sense.) Another problem I was having I was getting and receiving texts just fine, then I switched up my multi window icons which prompted me to reboot, so I did and I now cannot send or receive messages. Anyways, Is there a step or anything I missed or did wrong? I'd much appreciate any help/advice.

@Jetguat: A dirty flash is simply a flash wherein you DON'T delete or wipe DATA. You can update the system software, but all your settings, apps and data are intact. Very convenient for minor ROM updates!

But if it's a major enough upgrade, that will result in conflicts... so I always recommend that people make backups and prepare for a full wipe if necessary.

@Bradyy: Welcome to Android Forums!

You ARE on Verizon, right? This is for Verizon Note 3s ONLY. If so, I can only suggest a reflash. Check the MD5s to make sure your download is good. Wipe data, cache, Dalvik and system, flash the ROM, and reboot. Good luck.

I had ViPER4Android working for HD6. With HD7 there is supposedly a new version but UI is different. Driver install is different. And I cant actually get it to work. with HD6 it was activated similar to what it posted in the "High on Android" youtube video.

anybody have luck with Viper4 on HD7? I thought it was odd that it asked for which CPU, and then it didnt contain the CPU that the NOTE3 has.

very strange.

Yeah I got it figured it, I just flashed the stock firmware then rooted my phone again. Thanks. And yes, I'm on Verizon using the Note 3. I obviously need to update my profile information.

Glad you got it figured out, Bradyy!

Wow, this 128GB card is screaming. Copied everything over in about an hour... including all six Star Wars movies and the Back to the Future trilogy. Lots of room to play with!

Waiting for Hyperdrive 8 to hit and I'll clean flash it, no doubt it's being worked on feverishly...

:)

The leaked Verizon KitKat is awesome, I haven't found a single issue with it yet. I do miss HD7 and since it's possible he won't be making another one (SBreen moved to T-Mobile), I've found some happiness with the KK ROMs that are slowly coming out. I'd really like to see something similar to what HD had, but as long as I have my native hotspot working, I'm good.

I was on another forum today and someone asked SBreen if the KitKat Hyperdrive was coming for the Verizon Note 3, our dear developer answered and said that it was "in the works". WHOO HOO! :D

Keep in mind that there is a beta Safestrap 3.72 for KitKat - which requires BusyBox to run correctly. SO keep that in mind as you make preparation for RLS 8 - or whatever he's going to name it.
