Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

http://www.phonedog.com/2010/04/29/top-5-noah-s-top-5-smartphones-april-29-2010/ I saw this and Evo is rated number 3 on his top 5 smartphones.

I'm actually SOMEWHAT concerned with the size of the phone as well. I'm (to my fiancee's dismay) a big function over form type person, so I probably won't have an issue with it, but 4.3 inches is BIG. Luckily it's quite a bit thinner than my current Touch Pro, so that helps.

Now, of course, convincing my fiancee to get one as well...

i dont like that. his rating is on personal opinion of size. the incredible is not as specced as the evo. im sure he will change that lineup when the evo is released.

Meh, it's just one guy's opinion. Let's be realistic, the size of the sucker could be a detriment to the phone for some audiences.

You know....I've been convinced this is the phone for me....but if I had to pick one thing that concerns me it is the size. With this said, the cost of the plans, the features and the WiMax capability all make for a compelling recommendation of this phone. I guess the good thing is....while the size may indeed have disadvantages....it will also have great advantages for viewing....so which is more important? Each person will have to decide. Now if this phone were a bit smaller...say closer in size to the Incredible....now that might be the best of all compromises. I guess we'll see...once these hit the stores. Which brings me to a question...can I reserve a phone....via a pre-order....then go in and still have the option not to buy? I don't envision this happening...but just curious?

Since your post hasn't been deleted, I'm assuming I'm good to respond. I'm really hoping it's the last time I have to defend myself in this matter.

You say I didn't understand the gist of your post because I stated that my post count mattered and then go on to give an analogy where you indicate that your hypothetical person is in the wrong because he hasn't been at the party for long enough.

Nowhere have I demanding that people stop posting off-topic. Nowhere am I demanding that posters stop having fun. I mean, did you read my original post?

Can you see where this now becomes offensive? You're offhandedly insulting me.

At the end of the day, you're right. We're all here to chat about a phone. Let's just get on with that.
Maybe this should be handled in PM.

if size concerns you -

1. go take a step into a T-Mobile store and play with an HD2.
2. search on the internet for some size comparisons and you'll see that the EVO is not that much bigger than an iPhone despite the 4.3" display.

Is this phone out yet or what????? Geeeeeeeze. I'm really starting to get impatient !! Common I really have to wait another month and a half!!!!??? Sprint better hurry up or ill have to switch to verizon and get that lovely incredible =p

Yes, I did just that with the Hero. BestBuy cashed the gift card for me w/o a hassle.

Clock, a while back you posted about screen protectors. I know there are two opposing camps on screen protection, but You and I have the same idea and viewpoints when it comes to screens it seems. I was just curious what your experience is with them, and if you recommend any specific types or brands? (please no Zagg comments from the peanut gallery)

I was planning on trying out Steinheil/SGP but someone just posted that they aren't planning a product for the Evo which is really disappointing to me. Thanks to whomever contacted them I can't recall since it was a few pages back.

Ha... sounds quite familiar, andiron. Me too. The factor that helps level the playing field for me is that this is my first touchscreen-only phone. My hope is that the larger screen is going to help me out when it comes to making the switch. And the big screen IS a plus. I want the car dock for GPS, and obviously bigger is better there.

Maybe this should be handled in PM.

No need, I've said my piece. If everyone else is finished on the topic I definitely am.

Not exactly the same since it's an HD2 but other than thickness, the Evo and HD2 are the same size.

OK - I have NOT gone to TMO to try the HD2 on for size. I would think that the size (in terms of "luggability" is definitely a minus. However, size, as in "screen size", and for keying/typing/whatever, are pluses. So, 2 pluses, 1 minus - to me, it's a plus.

Honestly it didn't feel that big to me when I checked it out. I was just impressed with how it's almost all screen whereas the slightly smaller iPhone has so much bezel.

This will be my first touchscreen only phone, as well. Having the Touch Pro currently and the Mogul prior, I'm hoping that the larger screen will put me at ease not having a physical keyboard (that, and the fact that Android has the talk-to-text function).

OEM HTC Car Dock is definitely going to be a plus for me as well. Before the talk about this phone came up, I was actually on the verge of upgrading my car system to have a DVD screen w/ video out, so I could use the video out cables (for the Touch Pro) and project Navigation onto a bigger screen. Even though I'll be spending money to buy the EVO, it's saving me at least 800 from overhauling my stereo system!

I went to my local T-Mo store last weekend just to get an idea of the size of the EVO. I held the HD2 and to my surprise it wasn't that big at all. And it was quite light. Now I have zero reservations about getting this phone.

P.S. And this is coming from a current Pre owner with a small screen.

and i think it'll be 1/2 as thick as the Pre.

depends on what kind of jeans you wear -

1. hipster skinny jeans
2. hip hop baggy jeans
3. 80's stonewashed jeans
4. other

What about regular jeans? :) I've never had issues holding my iPod or Pre so I doubt I will have issues with the Evo. My jeans and work slacks are not skinny or super baggy but definitely fine for a phone as long as it's not in a bulky case or something. Considering the size of my first Nokia that I kept in my pocket, this will be a cakewalk.
