App for 3G data?

It's possible I missed it, but I cannot find an app or widget to put the on or off "connect" for 3G data on my home page.

I've got the wi-fi widget where I want it and I've looked through "market," but no joy.

I have an "Incredible" phone, my first android phone.

BTW,. is there a way to look through "market" with the items alpha-beta sorted?

If there is an app/widget that turns 3G data connections on/off, I sure can't find it. It isn't on my Incredible phone, and I can't find it on the market, either.

Anyone...anyone...Ferris...Ferris Bueller?

I too had a very hard time finding one other than the stock on off widget....i use
dgquickcut and add the stock widget to the top drop down task bar, all my frequently used apps are accessed there, I like clean home screen with just the wallpaper showing...Im not sure why the lack of 3rd party data widgets, it does puzzle me.

I can't find a 3G on off widget anywhere on my Incredible...and I have looked...

Does it have a non-logical name?

It should be in your HTC widgets. Long press a clear spot on your home screen. It'll list shrortcuts and widgets, go to HTC widgets then settings. It's under mobile network.

The stock HTC one didn't work well on my Hero though. I use one from the market called "Toggle Data Widget".

Mobile Network is not 3G. Toggling Mobile Network on/off turns your entire data connection (except wifi) on/off.

Some people may want to be able to turn 3G off for battery saving features, but want to maintain an EDGE or 1xRTT data connection for non-data-intensive applications like emails.

My bad I guess. I didn't know you could switch to just 1x mobile internet. So how do you do that? It would be handy if you receive important emails.

How do you do that? That's the question... I don't know if it's even possible on Android. It's possible on iPhone and probably should be possible in Android if someone developed a widget or something that could do it.

Entire data connection, as it were, apparently does not include incoming or outgoing cell telephony, because when I shut down the Mobile Network with the widget, the phone still works...

(Yes, I found the danged widget...)

If you turn off mobile data the phone will still send and receive calls and texts, you'll just need to turn it on for picture mail.

As for iPhone being on 1x...... maybe it can do it because it gets crap signal most of the time anyway

J/K I've seen my phone go into 1x a few times, but I don't think there's a way to force it. If the iPhone can do it, Android will be able to soon. Alot of the devs that make apps for iPhone are starting to port the same apps to Android.

"apn droid" can be found on the market and will turn your 3g data on/off when you press it.
I also use an app called "Quick Settings" that will do similar but it is not a widget.

You are right. Your phone will function perfectly fine as a phone/texting device with the 3G off. I don't see a way it would perform any better while the 3G is on.

The reason I turn off 3G is to increase battery life, which you Incredible owners are gonna have to look into with such a small battery. As long as you're not expecting or needing emails as they come to you I would suggest doing it. If you do need to receive emails, leave it on or maybe turn it on every hour or so to check for your emails. With a widget, it only takes a button press and 2 seconds for the data connection to connect.

Correct, you can turn Mobile Network off (e.g., shut down all data) and your voice and SMS still work fine, just like a dumb phone without a data connection.
