4.3 update Discussion and issues HERE !!!

Has anyone else noticed this or found a solution?
Install a different texting app. It's not like there aren't enough of them to give you a problem in choosing.

Any suggestions would be great.
Just one - be glad you don't have the S3. The 4.3 update did some nasty things to that phone - like bricking it in many cases. Your phone works, so you're ahead of the game.

So it would seem. Having read some of the 4.3 posts this afternoon I do seem to have come off lightly. I honestly thought from what I had read from the so called professions that 4.3 would enhance my phone.
I guess I'm going to have to live with the fisher price interface, and lock screen, but I will have to sort the texting app.
Some people seem to have resolved some issues with a full factory reset. Is this new larger font in texting something that a reset can fix? (don't want to do it if not) Or have all Note 2 owners got the same issue?
If a new app is the only option does anyone have any recommendations? The stock app was always fine for me before, although it has always bugged me that I can't mark a text as unread.
Thanks in advance.

2) Texts are now displayed on the lock screen and I don't like it. They can be private or confidential, so I don't want the to be visible. I can turn the feature off, but then the preview on the status bar is also when unlocked is also disabled. Can one be disabled without the other

Did you uncheck Preview Message in the Settings/Notifications menu?

I have now, and it is better ..thanks.

That said the new notifications are really ugly and intrusive and make unlocking the phone with swipe more difficult. Also I now don't get the little preview on the status bar.

Not the end of the world, I'm just disappointed that the performance increase comes with massive battery drain, and a much less cosmetically pleasing interface.

I would still be interested to know, if any one else has a font which seems abnormally large when texting. The rest of the apps including email are fine, but the text size in messaging is way to big even on it's smallest setting. I am tempted to do a full factory reset as some people have suggested it helps with battery live, but I may not bother if it won't solve my font size issue.

Thanks for the help so far,

Hi everyone,

I upgraded to 4.3 and found that now i have two S Note apps. The stock version (brown icon) I can't uninstall or disable, the other one (I think it's the new version, red icon) keeps coming back even after I uninstall it. Anyone having similar problem? Any idea how to solve it? :hmmmm:

mr_d: the text size of the stock messaging app is too big for my liking even after setting the font size to tiny so I switched to Textra. You may want to give it a try :)

the swipe part is agg.
but the larger text can be changed by just using the volume buttons. up/down to adjust size. once you do it its done.

my email issue is still ongoing. after tech with verizon and samsung. i did the FDR. which no help. ended up replacing phone with warranty.
that was no help too. so its really the issue with programming no the phones. added example...my friends note 3 has same issue.
we both are on 4.3
so along with anyone else i am waiting. waiting for someone to care about fixing bugs.

It looks like the Note 2 has reached EOL for pretty much everything. With the Note 3 out and the soon to be S5, it looks like the Note 2 will be dropped. Samsung seems to have abandoned the original Note 10.1 as well.

My original Note 10.1 is starting to show its age. Love it and still do, but it's time to move on. I'll be jumping onto the Surface Pro 2 bandwagon. It's estimated to arrive tomorrow, but I won't be able to play with it until next week as I will be out of province for the week. Then I'll pass the Note 10.1 to one of my siblings.

I still have to hang on to my Note 2 with the 4.3 update until my contract is up. Can't afford another phone after the SP2 purchase... :p

Just a darn shame.... Still ignoring update

Yes it certainly is a darn shame..... I too have not updated my phone it is working just fine the way I want it......all these companies are after is your hard earned cash by adding silly extras on the phones I was a Telephone engineer for 20 years back in the 70s so have seen lots of changes from dial phones and customers having to share party telephone lines to fixed car phones that cost

I was worried at first - increased battery consumption, laggy.
Then I did a reset and after a day or two it started to come good.
Then I discovered a couple of things.

In WiFi features you can deselect the "network auto switch" which stops the Wi-Fi from switching on and off randomly.

And being able to disable factory apps is a great feature I never used before. After killing off all the junk apps I never use but couldn't get rid of before (Google movies, Google play, Flipboard, Hangouts etc etc) my Note ll is definitely faster.

Yes Kitkat so I have read but will this solve the 4.3 software problems or add a few more to the mix

I don't take OTAs so I don't trust them. I prefer to root and get the cleaned up faster versions than what Google and Samsung put out.

I have had many different phones and the "official" OTAs always brought issues. The forums are bombarded when OTAs are out. Just look at at this thread!

New firmware (665MB) for my N7105 on the UK Three network now installing. I'm assuming it's (finally!) 4.3 but will post results in half an hour or so. If I don't post anything by say, half four GMT then something went terribly wrong any anyone else with an N7105 on Three should hold fire!

EDIT: It was indeed 4.3. Build number is JSS15J.N7105XXUENC3

So far I'd say t was no faster or slower than 4.1.2.
The email is more readable. SMS app is fine (not sure what it is people are moaning about). Everything else seems ok and I prefer the keyboard. So far I'm happy but time will tell I guess.

I am a bit leery about going to 4.4. In the meantime my email attachment issue comes and goes. However the worst problem is the loss of my email contact list. It looks like email only pulls info from my phone contacts/google and not my email address books (work and personal). Very aggravating. Stock email app and stock android on a Sprint GN2. Another mystery issue is that I think an update (google play?) Made my phone unacceptably laggy. Even clean master doesn't help. It comes and goes so I end up restarting the phone.
