In the tutorial is the link they have for Odin still up, cause even tho I said if u have a newer version it shouldn't matter that could also be ur issue

As for SDK its usually most useful when modding or pushing things but as I recall I didn't need it when I pushed philz after you get a ROM like cm on it'll install adb drivers test next time u hook it to a pc

Did you do a nandroid backup of your Rom/data first? Backup then flash new stuff. It may be giving you an error because you didn't backup anything first and It could have wiped the rom. Still...flashing a new rom should do the trick. You flash the custom recovery with odin. After that boot into recovery. Then flash your supersu.zip file if you're just trying to root the factory l rom. You can also flash the de-knox script also, all that does is remove the knox apps, it does not remove knox from the bootloader.

i cant flash mk5 it gets aborted with satus 7 i flashed super su no i didnt back up

The newer Phil's have a known issue with flashing older Roms, I've heard there is a Phil's setting called "only allow updated" that u can unchecked to make it work, as for the location of said setting I'm not really sure, as I believe I've seen a user mention it before

Or u can try a 4.4 based rom

Good to hear your moving forward and got things working tho, also good that u passed the odin portion as u shouldn't have to use that to push things anymore, anytime a new Phil's drops u can now choose the zip and simply flash it and be done and so on

i think the rom did get wiped because it doesnt boot up anymore its stuck at the galaxy s3 logo screen. i can still go into philz rcovery. is there another rom i can flash to get this rooted? i wanted to get cm 11 on it do i have to flash this mk5 first? to get a different rom id just have to remove my sd card and pu in a different rom right?

Yes when u chose wipe data before u tried to install the ROM it deleted everything from the device itself, doesn't touch ur SD card tho

As far as mk5 version first no I don't believe you need to flash it, mk5 is just the modem which I believe can always be flashed later on

If u wanna go cm11 be sure you get one of the newest d2lte versions, a 4.4 version of gapps, and have moped fix ready

And to be honest I dont know what our talking about about removing the SD to change Roms, you don't need to change a thing, best practice when a new rom drop, download it and any needed files to our PC, then place them on our SD with the cable.... Done deal

the moped fix is the signal fix some roms currently require to get data to work properly

as for the mk5, that rom is simply a stock rom, just has the mk5 modem which is why its in the name, im pretty certain u can flash that modem later on if you wish, as for the other files, i just got home so im gonna try and get you some links here in a minute

You can put a different ROM on your sd card and flash that. There are several in this forum that work well on our phones. Either of these would be a good place to start. If those don't work, you'll could try this or these, but these require you to flash gapps if you want the play store. None of these need MopedRyder's APN fix.

MopedRyder's fixes put the vm APNs into any sprint ROM. There is a thread in this forum for them.

Ok...here is what you can do. Ill try to go step by step.
1. Download the CM11 Rom or .zip(d2lte or d2vm) file to your sd card one way or another.
2. Download the Mopedrider fix for the rom, you might need it, you might not need it.
3. Make sure the sd card is in the phone
4. Reboot the phone into philz recovery.
5. Wipe the Rom, wipe the cache, wipe the dalvik-cache.
6. Flash the cm11.zip
7. Flash the Mopedrider.zip
8.Reboot phone. It should be good after that.

thank you guys, ill try to flash cm11 as soon as it finishes downloading and see what happens

it no problem, what were all here for, phone modding and community

android gave ya i nice list there but he left out gapps, which is google play if you didnt know

it would go between the rom and the fix

so something like
1. install rom
2. install gapps
3. boot phone and play around a bit to see if you even need the fix or not, note that i believe sms still doesnt work on the stock message app but the full google play link i gave ya will replace the stock app with google hangouts which will work, then u can use a 3rd party one later if u wish, i use handcent works fine
4. now if you do need the fix you can go and install it now, reboot and you should be golden

good to see you got it going now, youll immediately notice like most do that your signal looks weaker, dont mind that as stock rom has 5 bars, non stock runs 4, plus the roms recheck the signal more often and are more accurate which will cause it to look as if its bouncing around, all perfectly normal as long as your data is still working

also as for earlier forgetting to make a nandroid backup, i cant say much cause i did the same thing when i first modded my device and i came from a different modded device so i should have known better, just got excited lol, but its good practice that you want to make a backup before changes like all the time lol, you wanna flash a totally different rom....make a backup, you wanna flash a kernal....make a backup, loading any mods like xposed framework...make a back up so on and so forth

i almost forgot the important one lol, so you just got ur device booting and just finished setting it all up the way you like it.......Make A Back Up lol

thats why i said community, and why i love it here

almost forgot also in phils, you probly seen it during the install but if you have a sd card in when u choose backup it will ask sdcard or sdcard1

the sdcard1 should be your actual sd(is on mine atleast), and thats where u wanna save it, the one listed as just sd is the internal storage which would be kinda pointless to save it to if the phone wouldnt boot and you couldnt get to it there lol

also when you actually save it itll make a folder, if you didnt adjust the time/date in phils itll have a wild date, best practice is to just use whatever file explorer you have and rename the folder yourself, i also try to make it a point to copy my last few backups to my pc anytime i connect it just incase i get a corrupt sd card which can easily happen with these phones

I wasn't sure about the SD card at first but I found out when I was looking for the backup to put it in my PC lol
One more question lol if I ever want to revert back to stock ROM (probably never unless I need I replaced) I'd just have to flash the mk5 ROM right? I'm not too worried about unroot since best buy never checks for that and with their warranty you get a phone swap right away.

there is a thread with a file floating around on here that has the 100% stock phone, but im pretty sure you'd need to use odin or something to push it which i dont like really cause odin can brick the phone very easily when pushing things especially when your not to sure on them, the person who posted it is known so id say the files trustworthy, i just wouldnt trust myself to not screw it up lol

besides that yea the MK5 is based of the original stock 4.3, it just has knox apps removed (or thats optional cant remember) so that should work fine especially if there not going to be trolling thru all the settings looking for it, plus the S3 has a flash counter built in so if they really wanted to they would just boot it in download mode and it would say u flashed stuff

So I just finished rooting my new s3 following the guide and everything seemed to go as instructed. The only problem i seem to be having now is after installing UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.93.zip and MK5_STOCK_DEODEXED2.zip i reboot my phone from recovery it asks if i want to root and then restarts. but for some reason it just hangs at the Samsung galaxy s3 screen and has been there for the last 10 minutes. does it usually take this long to start up after?

first time installing a rom and booting yes it will be considerably longer then normal but it shouldn't be 10 minutes

Yeah I wouldn't trust myself either lol I'll just flash MK5 if I ever have to then. they never go through settings all they do is get the serial number. They shouldn't be able to tell it's rooted from the serial number right?.....
