Laugh soo hard I fell off my chair.

You understand there the complete disconnect in that statement right?

It is like saying I put a piece of duct tape over the service engine light in my car, so I will never have car problems.

It is like saying that going to the porn store will magically clean your garage.

It is like saying, I can walk across a mine field because my grandmothers cat was orange.

If you honestly think you are safer with a mac, then I have some property on the moon to sell you. Great summer weather, good beach location, and easy commute.

L..................................O................................L......................

This is a great way to put it.

People need to start reading up on those hacking conventions that they
hold where they give the top hacker $10,000. Mac was hacked and given multiple effective viruses in less than 30 seconds....

You ma'am, are a scholar. Having a mac and saying get one so you won't get viruses is so crazy, it should be illegal.

And contrary to this statement, I'm an Information Security major in college, so get off your high horse, I know plenty about OS security.

Ok...sweet.

Never had a virus, and I check every few months with a program or two.

I have had every windows version since 2.11. (Wow I just dated myself.)

I have never had a virus, trojan, or male ware.

I do not think we need to be Angela Lansbury here.

So clearly what this means is that virus do not exist! Yes that is it!

Since you have never had a virus on mac, they must not exist.

Since I have not had a virus on windows, mac, linux, they do not exist.

Case solved!

Here is how you do it.

Treat your computer like it is an 8 year old kid.

Would you let your 8 year old kid into a porn store?

Would you let your 8 year old kid accept candy (apps) from strangers?

Would you let your 8 year old kid talk to strange people (surfing the web)?

Would you let our 8 year old kid steal candy from the supermarket (download movies/games/music)?

If you treat your computer like an 8 year old you will never get viruses.

But it is interesting that people are getting warnings. I do not allow scripts, (ie my kid talk to strangers) and I am getting nothing.

I didn't say they didn't exist, but they are way less common.

Thats great that you have a degree, that doesn't make everyone else a moron.

Considering you are the one that brought up the college thing and then got worked, I'd say yes, you are a moron. (In no way do I actually believe you or the MIT Grad. I'm just sayin...)

Back on topic - I have not received any warnings on either my laptop or desktop. Both running windows 7 and MSE. Hopefully that is a good...

So someone that has a degree, vs. someone that is 75% towards a degree means I got worked?

Right...

Buying a Mac to avoid running antivirus would be like buying a Mercedes instead of a Honda because someone said you wouldn't have to change the oil.

I use Mac Pros at work and self-built PCs at home. Haven't had a virus on any of them mainly because I don't install trojans and spend 5 minutes downloading and installing a free lightweight antivirus when I first set up a computer.

In my experience, Mac OS is most definitely vulnerable as someone once said, Windows is like a house in the city with an alarm system and deadbolts while Mac OS is like a house out in the country with its doors unlocked and windows open. Windows requires more preventative measures but that is mainly thanks to the more hostile environment it tends to operate in. Typically the only viruses people get are the ones they let in (ie installing some leet warez from Limewire, etc.)

Just look at pwn2own for examples of this.

Anyway, I guess I've just reiterated how nerds will argue about OSes the way wonks and partisans will argue politics or jocks will argue sports :) We can't help ourselves! :D
