Unresponsive touch screen and keyboard.

I have had my Incredible for 24 hours now, and I am having problems with the touch input becoming completely unresponsive. Sometimes just waiting will fix the problem, sometimes I have to turn the screen off with the power button and then turn it back on to get it to recognize input. Just as an example, for the last 20 minutes I have been trying to type my password in Market to associate my Google account in order to buy an app, and have given up because I cannot successfully get through typing my entire password without the screen becoming unresponsive to the point that I cannot finish.

Also, in regards to the keyboard specifically and not the entire screen in general. When using the landscape keyboard, I CANNOT, no matter what I do, get the keyboard to recognize the character "G" every letter surrounding G works, but G is a no go.

Last night I even did a hard reset and that did not fix the problem. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I got frustrated enough to take my phone to the nearest Verizon store on my lunch break. Handed the phone to a Verizon employee and asked them to test typing and general usage. After two minutes she said, this phone is not working right. She wanted to hard reset, and did so. After the hard reset, it was still having the same problems, so she grabbed a new one from the back of the store and swapped it right on the spot. My new non BOA (broken on arrival) phone is AMAZING!

I'm glad it worked out. I'm keeping an eye out for these types of issues before I jump on a new phone. I'm very interested in seeing draw test comparisons, now that the new generation touch-screens are coming into play.

Damn. I think I need to do the same thing. I have suspected as much, but have not had the chance yet to be sure. My "Y" key in landscape mode will not press, and the middle selection of lists will not select in portrait mode unless I scroll it *just* right. At least I feel better it wasn't me...

I installed an app called simply draw and my tests where just about perfect. So perfect that I have my doubts I did it correctly.

Fantastic! Thank you for checking that. It's not the most scientific test but it's a start. The key factor is to go slow while drawing the line. Moto had performed the test using light pressure and moderate pressure.

It seems HTC has closed the gap in touch sensor quality/density. I had seen references to them using maXTouch, but it's good to get some real life confirmation as opposed to watching sales pitches.

I have started having an issue with my touch screen as well. There seems to be an area where the "f", "r" and "c", (basically all in a straight line) letters are when its in profile mode. I have had the phone for a couple of weeks and this issue just started. I have tried the battery pull and the master reset neither of which have fixed my issue. I have come to the conclusion that I have to call into customer service and get my beloved phone swapped out...unless anyone has found a fix for this...

The problem I am having is that the keyboard cant keep up with my typing. And you know what, My HD2 had this problem after about a weeks use. I think I'm going to get off the HTC bandwagon for a little bit. Seriously this sucks, how can this phone pass through testing with any of these issues.

I too am having trouble and Google'd my way to this post. It's been a great device until today - have had it for a few weeks - but today the touch screen started acting up for no apparent reason. It's not generally dead, but seems to have dead spots in some apps. E.g., in the text messaging screens, depending on the layout details, it won't respond to a touch in the body text entry box - definitely a bad place to have a dead spot. Ironically, a consistently reproducible issue is when I try to power down the phone to reset it w/o taking it apart and pulling the battery. It gets to the dialog where you get to say "okay" or "cancel" - and neither button will respond to a touch. ARGH! I showed this to a rep at a Verizon store and their reaction was that I should take it to a warranty service store and have them swap it; they hadn't seen the problem, though. What's wierd is that it's not a pure hardware problem - those areas of the screen ARE responsive in some apps, e.g., when in phone dialing mode and some other apps - so it seems to be an app-dependent issue. Has anyone else seen this fairly bizarre behavior...? Sigh.
