Help Has anyone received the Three UK 4G carrier update?

the carrier update comes from the network right?

Only if the firmware is customised (branded) for the network; updated for the generic firmware are pushed by Sony themselves.

Incidently, I think Three are talking rubbish anyway. Their 4G network operates on the same LTE bands as O2 & Vodafone (800MHz, Band 20) and EE (1800MHz, Band 3) which are supported by all European 4G-capable handsets.

How old is your SIM card? If it's more than a few months old then it may not be 4G-enabled. A quick phone call to Three's customer service should get you a replacement SIM.

The SIM is 4g, I plugged it in my work galaxy s4 (Vodafone) as a test and it immediately downloaded LTE/4G settings for Three

Did the handset show a 4G connection afterwards i.e. "4G" instead of "H+" in the notification area?

How do I get a carrier update from Sony if it's not from three?

It will be pushed out either OTA or via PC Companion, same as the carrier-specific updates.

Interestingly, I plugged into the PC companion last night. I'm currently on android 4.3 and everywhere says that the Z1 compact latest software is 4.4 (or 4.4.2?).

The PC companion said there was no update software available.

Is anyone on 4.4 or 4.4.2?

I have the same problem - no 4G option available on my phone and no carrier/firmware update via OTA or PC companion.
The 4.4.2 generic UK firmware is available for certain Z1 compact devices but not mine it seems! There is a stock version available on the XDA Devs forum but I haven't yet tried updating to it yet to see if it resolves the 4G issue. I may give it a go tonight if I get time.

Tony

The firmware on xda is in the form of an ftf file which has been created from the official Sony software downloaded by pc companion (remember I said some people had received their official update?). There are various versions available one of which is the generic unbranded UK firmware which is the update we should have received! You need to flash the ftf file with a program called flashtool.

Hi. I noticed today that my handset was showing this. I'm a 3 customer, actually coming to end of my contract. If it wasn't that their coverage is so abysmal round where I live, I'd renew my contract. As it is, I'm thinking of changing to O2/Giffgaff.

Strange. How do you update with the XDA firmware? I've had a Sumsung and a nexus device before but never a Sony

Just to confirm I updated to the kitkat firmware available on the Xda development forum and the LTE option has now appeared. Obviously this is the update required to get the 3 4g carrier settings but for some reason Sony don't want to release it for our particular phones!
