Root [International] Latest modems

Sorry to drag you guys back on topic :D

Us... off topic, surely not. ;)

Can I just extract modem.bin from the Kit Kat .tar.md5 for my csc and flash it with Odin?

"Horses for courses", on this one CafeKampuchia. The, "how to", bit is not my strong suit I'm afraid but I'm sure you will get a reply from someone more knowledgeable on this subject than I am. You, on the i9500, are in the lucky position that you can at least flash modems via custom recovery which, the i9505 owners cannot.

Just as a matter of interest, what are your AP, CP and CSC firmware details?

Hey, it happens to the best of us. :) I've even heard that here on AF, even the mods go off topic sometimes, but I think that's just a rumor ;)

Then I will check with another horse, of course. :ridinghorse:

I've only ever flashed modems with ODIN so I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing!

AP: I9500XXUFNC1
CP: I9500XXUFNA6
CSC: I9500YDDFNC2

I'm presently running Omega v20 (4.4.2) by ::indie:: over at XDA. My thinking is that regardless of the info above, I need the modem optimized for my carrier's network, hence the one from my region (THL) and also the same Android version, 4.4.2. That leaves me with the modem extracted from I9500XXUFNB7. Am I on the right track?

You are on the right track old son. Stick with the modem that is for your CSC code/region... like this one...

Model: GT-I9500
Model name: GALAXY S4
Country: Thailand
Version: Android 4.4.2
Changelist: 699287
Build date: Fri, 28 Feb 2014 11:23:54 +0000
Product Code: THL
PDA: I9500XXUFNB7
CSC: I9500OLBFNB4
MODEM: I9500DXUFNB2

So, the modem that you need, either .tar or .zip, is i9500DXUFNB2 which is from the latest, 4.4.2, firmware for Thailand.

I just had a very quick search for a ready made .tar or .zip file of this modem and could not find it in the usual haunts that I frequent.

Then you have confirmed both my thinking and my problem. Is this the thread you've been frequently haunting? I didn't see it there either.

So I can either hit Google in earnest, trusting that random sources will turn up a good modem for me, or I can extract modem.bin from that firmware and flash it.

Thanks a lot sir. I just downloaded my latest firmware. Do my root phone will be get unrooted if im gonna install the firmware? I only need the NB4 modem. Just the modem. But not sure.

You might do better to ask that question on the All Things Root forum for your model of phone, T-Mobile USA, SGH-M919, as rooting methods vary between models/firmwares and they will be better placed to answer your queries...

Hello sirs,I just bought my GT-I9500 - Vietnam Region and playing around with it,i am really hate the stock firmware with a ton of bloatwares,so i tried some CM,SOKP Roms.. With the CM Roms,i have to flash another modem to fix the incall sound..after that,i restore my Stock 4.4.2 backup and find out my incall sound became terrible even with other Touchwiz Roms. Can you give me the 4.4.2 modem came with my ship Rom,here is my S4 info :

UPDATE Very early tests at my desk, show that this modem, for me, does not appear to be as good as the NB8 modem I have been using recently.

The famed Twilight Zone test awaits......

The famed Twilight Zone test awaits......

The old boy's too paralytic on sherry to post his report.....

For once... the Dynamic Duo are correct on both counts!

I amended my earlier post as I really had not allowed enough time to make such a call and need to test it in a signal dead zone... which, by coincidence, happens to be a pub. As for being paralytic on sherry... close. Champagne, after a weekend at Badminton Horse Trials, (4 horses were found guilty incidentally). ;)

My full and comprehensive report will follow after my usual thorough and lengthy testing.

(Say what you like... Repulsa is blooming quick with these modems)

UPDATE So far the ND7 modem, in spite of my earlier posting, proved to be very good on my network, Vodafone, and location. I am still reserving judgement on the NDG modem as I am unsure about it as far as signal and wakelocks are concerned, for me. NE5 seems OK at my desk but I will need to field test it.

So old farty pants, any Twilight Zone verdict on NE5 yet?

Hold your horses! The Twilight Zone is a pub. Do you think I'm an alcoholic or something? I only visit there on special days... like one's with a, "Y", in the name.

Oh, hang on... today's WednesdaY!

Will check for you.

So far, I am liking this a lot better than NDG.

I've just put it on myself, and very early signs seem promising.
quite frequently on every other modem I've used so far I would get brief periods of up to a minute with no signal (reports 99 ASU)
I think this has something to do with the fact that I am in a borderline 4G area, and the phone takes time in its transition between switching between 3G+4G modes. Not sure if this is a general problem, or perhaps its due to the fact I'm still on the old 4.2.2 bootloader with 4.2.2 LTE modem, with 4.4.2 ROM+GSM modem.
Not noticed this "lull" happen on this one yet.

Edit: false hope that was very short-lived. Its still occurring.
