Should I Get The Nexus 5?

I have been trying to decide whether or not I should purchase the Nexus 5 off the play store. I don't know if the G2 or Moto X or some other phone would be better. I like the fact that the nexus gets updates before any other phone does, but I don't know if I'm getting a lot for my money. I tried the nexus 7 tablet and it was amazing I had to take it back though. I want a real fast phone that can play games smoothly. And one that has a pretty good front camera. Any opinions? Thanks

Agreed it covers all your wants. One word of caution (you can return it to the play store if), the phone itself seems to have problems in low signal areas. If you have a strong ATT or T-Mobile signal where you live/work, I don't think you could do better. I do not have a strong signal in my house (keeping my Spigen ultra slim case off helps), but I live with it because the device is so fantastic. The iPhone 4s's (same service) in the house ALWAYS have a signal while mine varies from 10-80% of the time with -105dBm the norm.

you are correct but the chance of getting the update on day 1 is pretty slim. google releases updates by stages. it may take up to 2~3 weeks. but if you want you can manually sideload it on day 1 very very easily.
but I don't know if I'm getting a lot for my money.
this is the only phone where you get the most for your money. phones with similar specs were going for 600+

it has a ok front camera. nothing spectacular.

ritchea has a very valid concern. one of the few weaknesses of this phone. but as long as your location has good signal, you are fine.

Nexus 5 covers all those areas. For the money there is no better device.

However the best front facing camera that I have ever seen is on the HTC ONE M8, that front shooter is crazy.

I have a question about the signal. Would it be the same as it is on my Galaxy Nexus (gsm) using the same carrier's sim? Or is it somehow worse? I live out in the sticks so there are areas where the signal is weak.

Just throwing this in here, you'd want to look at the sound issue (during calls). Have mine for about a month now and only last week the person who I called was saying he can't hear me. Anyway did some research and it's an issue with the noise cancelling microphone, apparently it's portraying my voice as noise and thus not transmitting it (kinda defeats the point of a phone).

Just something to keep in mind.

No numbers to back it up, but I'd say it's similar. One reason I got the N4 was that my GNex could barely receive a signal in my house--just like my N5. The N4 was much better. I couldn't have imagined that the N5 would be a step backwards. I wanted LTE for when I was traveling (which I have). My son is on T-Mobile (I'm on ATT), and he was happy to step up from the GNex to N4 and have LTE.
