Are you going to get the HTC M8 -Specs, carrier, discussion, and $$$DEALS$$$

Just picked up the M8 at Costco today. Despite the buy one, get one free deal being expired as of yesterday, according to the advertisement, the deal was still on today. Came with a nice little accessory package, too, which included a car mount and a dual car charger.

I'm loving this phone so far, though I REALLY wish that it had a removable battery. Guess I'll have to get over that. :hmpf:

Tell me more about the car mount . . . . please? And I am with you on the non removable battery. This will be a huge change for me since I always own spare batteries. Not this time.

When the BLACK M8 hits AT&T, i'm there. S5 is just too big. I'm not knocking Samsung(i have the SGSIII), but i can go from 4.8 to 5.0, and no bigger.:p

M8 feels bigger and heavier then the S5! Especially when your talking about the height of the phone.

I've been using the M8 since Thursday and the whole size thing has never been an issue. The speakers are what what makes it feel so much bigger then the S5.

I spent an hour waiting to be assisted at my Verizon store Sat. I had plenty of time to play with the new sammy. It's nice.. it really is. If you are into Samsung, I well understand the love for the S5. I'm a HTC guy. Have been and likely will remain so. I tried to be open minded and make a wise purchase. The M8 followed me home. I was way impressed with ever facet of the phone. Now that I have had a day or two with it... I know I made the right choice for me. Loving it!

Sorry about the delay. Here's a photo of the mount (that I have yet to use):

Worth upgrading from the nexus?

I would definitely take a look at one in the store and play around with it for a bit before deciding if it is for you, but I have to say with my personal experience that I am very satisfied with the performance of this phone and the very minimalist sense 6.0 overlay. I would highly recommend it just based on battery life alone. I have yet to find anything that I am unhappy with, in fact I have been pleasantly surprised over the course of the last two weeks as I've learned more and more about the new One.

You can look though the reviews in this thread and find many objective opinions on the device. To summarize them though, everyone loves the device with the only recurring concerns being:

-Is camera is good enough for what the users needs it for.
-Devices that have a speaker grill that is not flush (an exchange fixed this)
-Loose volume buttons on a few devices (an exchange fixed this) and I don't believe the volume buttons will loosen over time, it's just the way the buttons were milled on a few phones.

In other words, issues that you will come across in any other device. These issues are not very common, but they are the ones that have popped up at least 5 times or more in the forum from different users.

My device was perfect, as are most. Worst case you look at the phone and ask for a new one. Point of advice though, never, ever base your observations of build quality on the display model. Those phones go through torture every day; being dropped, slammed and mishandled.

My opinion...

Get one ;) you will not be disappointed!

Just to add one more benefit of purchasing from Costco - for those who are able to - Costco offers a 90-day return policy on phones, which is pretty awesome. You're still bound by your carrier's agreement, of course, but if you decide that you don't like the M8 after a couple of months and that you want the SGS5 instead, you can swap it out.

Worth upgrading from the nexus?

Everyone has an opinion...mine is that of a phone whore that simpky loves new tech.

Is the M8 better then the nexus 5? Or vice versa...That's a seriously tough question to answer because at $399 the nexus is pretty much the best android phone on the planet, case closed...there is no arguing that what so ever. The the nexus 5 has pretty much everything anyone could want in a android phone, but I say that because I love stock and while some disagree, I like the build and feel of it. What I don't like is the battery life. But that can be overcome with carrying around a charger, I have the wireless charger as well, so battery life is what it is, but honestly everything else works pretty much great.

But after really holding the M8, looking at the screen, and just adjusting on how to take pics with this thing has he hooked. I love the way the M8 feels, I love the way it performs, I love everything except the camera! However, because I think of myself as a pretty good photographer I have been able to adjust and honestly take some pretty amazing shots, and I really love the customization surrounding the camera as well. Detail could be better, but sometimes it matters who's snapping the pic vs what's snapping the pic.

So IMO its really worth checking out, HTC has done a really good job with this phone, but as we all know it comes with a heavy premium. Its basically a $700 phone vs a $400 phone. Some can justify spending the difference, however my excuse is that I'm simply a phone whore...haha.

Problems Problems!! How to decide between the M8 vs GS5. Is anyone concerned about HTC and its remaining a viable company or about HTCs customer service? I have been VERY disappointed with HTCs [poor] customer service. Anyone have experience with Samsung customer service, any better?

Personally I have had excellent results with HTC customer service, as long as you avoid the chat option (it is terrible) and just call them directly. The Few times I have called them they have always been helpful and followed up.

On your other question- No, I am not concerned about their viability. They are turning their ship around in my opinion and will be here for a long time!

+1 The phone is always best,no nuances or misunderstandings lost + the phone reps I've dealt with are up-to-date w/the latest & have been nothing short of polite & professional.
They appear to be as passionate about the smartphone experience as all of us here,& it shows in the all-around experience.

I've been hoping/planning to go get the phone Friday/Sat. when it is officially available in Sprint stores (online sales burned me last year), but have been awaiting a Black version since the One Max. Between the continuing rumor or false hope of a Black version, possible H/K edition, and display lottery, I find myself pumping the brakes again.

Well I bit the bullet. Couldn't wait for Black any longer, as it may never arrive. Darkish aluminum will have to suffice for now.

Picked up an M8 this weekend. Made sure that the display panel color representation was good before leaving the store. The floor displays were wildly different. One very cool with bright white, the other very warm with yellowy whites. The unit I got fell between the two of them. Not too cool, not too warm, just right. It also has nice tight body panels, "clicky" volume rocker but not loose and rattling. No light bleed (getting rid of capacitive keys sure helped with that yearly issue) but viewing on an extreme angle there is a visible display panel/digitizer? lighting point under the edge of the screen surround about 1cm from the corners up the vertical sides. I'm guessing this is normal as the display had this too.

I looked for dust under the glass in store, but their store fluorescent lighting has never worked well for that. Didn't see any. Sunlight reveals dust under screen very clearly but I guess I was too excited to get home and get it on the charger. Noticed later that there is in fact dust under the glass in two areas. They are both on the edges. One almost is blended into the screen surround. However is still noticeable, like a dead pixel just on the very edge of the picture.
Practically every HTC phone I've had has had dust under screen. In the past I've gone through multiple units. It is a real problem with their suppliers/assembly.
Trying to decide if I should grumblingly accept (yet again HTC, yet again!?) this unit or return it. Don't know if I will get one that is any better, not sure if I want to "roll the dice".
I know this is a pretty personal battle but any helpful outside opinions out there? Dying to cut my screen protector, activate it, and put it into use. But not until I've come to a decision.
