Hey guys, just bought the Incredible yesterday, my first smart phone (coming from a chocolate touch, feels like a child's toy compared to the Incredible). I'll be around these parts now trying to help out the forums as much as possible. r00t.

When I bought the Incredible, I was asking the dude at best buy if I could turn off sense if I didn't like it (I'm digging it right now). He kinda circled around my question and said if I turn dev mode on in the phone, I can basically install any other operating system I please, given they conform to memory/processor specs (Windows 7 starter, Debian, etc.). I found this to be pretty interesting. Anyone know more on this?

Also, I know the phone has the built-in Mobile Broadband Connect feature. I've been using PDANet with no problems so far for tethering on the Incredible. Any advantages/disadvantages to either? Is Verizon charging extra for MBC? Are they basically the same thing?

I love buying a phone I researched extensively and STILL finding out about features I didn't know about...the above, TV-Out...ahhhhh i love open source!

I'm not an expert, but wtf is he talking about? I'm pretty sure if there was a "dev mode" check box somewhere, people wouldn't have to try for weeks/months just to find a root access vulnerability in these phones.

Also interesting that he uses something that would invalidate your warranty as part of his sales pitch.

Why did you get an HTC Incredible if you hate the Android OS system? Weird... That's like the nuts and bolts of the phone to me.

You know they have Windows Mobile HTC phones right?

I think the OP was referring to turning off just HTC Sense.

Maybe the rep was referring to rooting the phone? You can't just install any OS that you want on it, as far as I know.

Don't get me wrong, I'm loving me some Android, that's mostly the reason I bought it. And currently I'm also loving the Sense UI, wouldn't mess with it at the moment, but I didn't know if I would, so I asked if I'd have the option. I just found it interesting that what he told me, that's why I asked YOU guys, the true underground experts here, for more info on that. Trust me, I take everything BB says with a grain of salt...lol. I running a quad-boot computer system right now, so I'm a man who likes options and a man who loves messing with things until they break. Then fixing it (my quad boot is very stable now thank you very much!).

What about MBC tho?

Don't worry about man. Looks like some people around here get really bent out of shape the second you start talking about anything OTHER than Android. I would be interested in hearing any thoughts to your original question. As for the dev mode, that's the first mention I've heard of it.

What makes you think I'm bent out of shape? It was an honest question - maybe I misread his post. It's my first android os so I have no bias.

Why don't you take off your panties and have a testosterone injection.

As for coalesce - I'm glad you love your Incredible - it's my first smart phone and I love it too.
