Just got the Incredible - Not sure if I like Android

I upgraded to the Incredible yesterday from my HTC Touch that I had and so far I just don't like the switch from Windows. The HD2 has been the phone I've wanted but theres no TMo service here. I really want to get used to this phone and keep it but I'm having a hard time getting the feel of it. Has anyone else here come from WinMo and liked Android more?

I switched from the Diamond to the Incredible and so far have to regrets. I have just begun to play with the Incredible though.

I'm not sure if its just because I'm so used to Windows that i'm having a hard time getting used to it or what. Some of the biggest things for me is that I really liked the way windows was, namely the start menu and the X (close button) in the corner. I liked that the X actually closed programs. I haven't seen anything like that in Android other than to hit the home button but that leaves tons of stuff in the background.

Windows also linked better with my hotmail account, although thats not major.

I also really dislike the Android home screen layout, and I know its changeable but I haven't really figured out how to do that easily yet. I've tried a few programs but none I like.

I think the biggest issue for me is I am far to comfortable with Windows. I've been using it all my life on computers so WinMo was like second nature to me. I feel like an elderly man using the internet for the first time with Android sometimes haha.

So its been one day since the phone was officially release and you made a whole thread of not sure if you like android,wow don't you think you should give yourself a decent amount of time to understand the os then,if this is the cast you good have stop at any verizon store and play with a android phone and save yourself some trouble..not being rude just saying.

I myself had the HTC Touch, then the Diamond before I switch over to the Hero.
It does take a bit getting used to coming from the WinMo mindset and way of doing things. I still miss the menu system from WinMo and some apps have yet to cross over to Android, but i am so much in love with the device and the software that to me at least there is no turning back. Since last year, Ive gotten accustomed with the device and the inner workings. Even taught myself to root, but it takes time. Now with the newer devices coming out like the Incredible, the EVO, the Galaxy etc, and the newer OS that they come with with make it much better, faster and easier to learn. But it does take a bit to get used to coming from Winmo, palm, etc.

Hopefully you will get used to it cause the Incredible is a nice device.

Since you have 30 days to return the phone if you don't like it, give it some time. The first day you think its cool, the next couple of days you want to throw it out the window.

The best thing to do is read this forum and play with the phone. Within a couple of weeks you'll be able to tell if its the right phone for you.

I started with an Eris (because it was free at the time) and realized that I did not like the overall feel of the phone and the lack of a physical keyboard. There were other things that bugged me, but these were the big deal breakers.

I returned the phone after three weeks and went back to my old EnV. A week later I bought the Motorola Droid and I'm much happier. There is still a steep learning curve with devices this powerful but it's FUN! I don't think I'd ever classify Windows as *fun*.

Best of luck and don't be shy about asking questions. There are a lot of people to help here!

I came from the iPhone so I came from the opposite reactions side. I've had a few "wow" moments.

I think the first one came when I found the "options" button had options! Options, options, options

The second was the notification pull down, a co-worker had to show me that one. I was so happy do get rid of pop-up notifications!

My biggest disappointment with Android is that Google never developed an optional desktop client for music (poorly fleshed out) and syncing/backup.

I've never had the opportunity to play with winmobile. It seems to me with win7mobile, their taking steps backwards and towards apple.

well i like that you don't have to be force to manage your phone on the desktop (itunes) android don't need it you can do it all from your phone thats the beauty of open source , you can personalize your phone to your liking not just having icons cluttering your phone desktop.(like the iphone)the android phone add widgets that are usefull to your needs and function,ANDROID is on another level people should stop comparing the two.

I didn't start this just to say how much I didn't like Android, I wanted to share my thoughts and hear what some others think about it. I really want to like Android and get away from WinMo since it seems like the best choice. I'm getting more comfortable with the phone and finding apps so I like it better (such as Handcent and Swype).

I've had WinMo phones before and IMO Android is everything WinMo is but more consumer- and touch-friendly.

I LOVE ANDROID SO MUCH BETTER. It freaking rocks , the applications , the forums, everything is much better. I give much love to ppcgeeks.com my previous home where they busted my ROM cooking cherry. But Android is better hands down.

Give it time shit have you ever switched from driving an automatic to a stick???

Android Marketplace is SO much better than Windows Marketplace. Have you looked at all the apps you can have in there? Get used to using an Android device. With any big change, it takes time to adjust and get comfortable with it. I moved from a Windows device, Samsung Omnia 2, and do NOT regret it at all. The Incredible is a far superior device. I don't really know much about the HD2, but I just was not too happy with Windows in general. I guess when Windows Mobile 7 comes out, things might change. Again, the Marketplace makes such a big difference. There's so many things I can do on this phone that I couldn't on my previous Windows phone.

Big changes are always different and sometimes hard to adjust to. It was REALLY hard for me to go from Palm to Blackberry years ago, then not hard, but weird, to go to Android. Remember using a CD player for the first time after replacing your cassette deck??

Give it a week, if not, using your 30 day return!

I went from Nokia Symbian to Android. It felt really weird how everything was laid out in Android. But I got used to it. I realized that you don't need to close apps directly when your done with them, and it was nice to not have to tell an app what access point to use EVERY time you loaded it up. I've been more than satisfied with my Eris.

I think the only things I will miss on my Nokia are the 4 day battery life and the actual flashlight. But both are more hardware related than OS related, but Symbian is extremely battery efficient. Probably because its so old.
