Root [Virgin Mobile] Android 4.4.2 VM SPH-L710

okay putting out the "noob" disclaimer upfront. Ill take the ribbing for dumb questions too. I have been reading this and xda post for three days now. But being noob, need it spelled out. My SG3 is replacement phone and the KNOX VIRSUS (what is to me) flag is tripped. Can I install the kitkat 4.4.2 in someway or no?? I was told back when got the phone, if contains bootloader in rom, will hardbrick. Thanks for all that can look past my noob status.

Someone with flashing experience needs to make a step by step instructional on how to install Sprint's 4.4 KitKat update on 100% pure stock Boost/Virgin Mobile Galaxy S3 (SPH-L710) devices for those that do not want to wait for the KitKat upgrade to come to the Boost/Virgin Mobile versions of the phone. (If it even comes officially).

Does anyone know if we are going to get the 4.4.2 update on virgin mobile ?

I am sitting here looking at my update for 4.4 right now. I am rooted and on MOAR, so I was a bit surprised to see them offering it. I decided to log in here and confirm that it would be a bad thing to take this update. I figure they'll sneak Knoxx onto my phone if it even works.

What should I do?

EDIT:

It says the 500MB update has downloaded and ready to install. Does anyone have the VM version of this yet? Can I grab it and upload it somewhere? Or has this VM version been circulated already? Also, being rooted on MOAR, does my phone appear to be a Sprint phone, or a VM phone to the powers that be?

You received an update notification on Virgin Mobile?

EDIT: Just saw your edit haha

I am on Virgin Mobile, but running MOAR with an APN fix. So does that mean it's a Sprint update to 4.4? Surely Sprint doesn't think I'm a Sprint customer right? I am clearly in the database as a VM customer.

Under Device settings, shows me as MK5.

MK5 baseband, build, or both?
MK5 baseband is just the modem so that shouldn't affect the OTA. If it's the build, then yes it should think you're VM. But I believe how it determines if your eligible for OTA is a few lines in the build.prop

There are people who know more about this than I, so I'll let them chime in :)

Ah...build number.

Mine shows:

Build Number
MOAR v9.0.1 MK3

So is that why the 4.4 update was pushed to me even though I'm on VM?

My best guess is that the reason you are getting the update is because it sees a Sprint build number.

I think I'm going to install the Sprint ND8 tonight to see how it runs. I'm wanting the new modem anyway. Hopefully all goes well.

Once your there theres no going back, so far as I can find. Not that its bad I get better signal now, just hope when I have to renew my plan im still good.Under status it still says my name virginmobile though.

Are you on a totally stock VM S3? If so, will you post instructions step by step? I have VM Galaxy S3 that is stock that I use for business on the MK5 baseband. I don't want to install it and I have data (3G/LTE) connectivity issues flashing the Sprint ND8 build.

Your phone number and MEID is through the Virgin Mobile system so there shouldn't be any problems regarding renewing your monthly service.
