Root [Virgin Mobile/Sprint] Unbrick VM/Sprint F3

Yeah, maybe. Because I did it on my laptop for the first time and it worked smoothly with no problems. Then phone got bricked again, then tried using my laptop (same cable, same process) but this time didn't work so just brought it to my work and did it here. Worked with no problems.

Maybe has something to do with switching COM ports to default then back? hmmm

If so, try com port 42 in device manager, then select port 2 on LG flash tool

Did you try rebooting the PC?

Yup yup. I'm pretty sure I tried all the known methods (or at least that I know of). Thing is, it worked on another computer (and learned my lesson to not mess around with my phone too much). Though I safe-rooted once again last night  working like a charm.

BTW, thank you for the thread; it helped a lot. I would've gotten a new phone if this thread didn't exist.

Hey i downloaded everything, tried to change ports went through device manager and Ports (COM & LPT) were not installed, so i used the hardware wizard to install it, and its giving me 'Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34)"

I'm getting the QHSUSB_DLOAD input when i connect my phone (which wont turn on or charge obviously..)

Is there a way i can fix port issue and set my phone in download mode, due to it not wanting to turn on and just a black screen... ive tried volume up button, factory reset... nothing works. When holding in the factory reset buttons the LED light turns green and shuts off in 5 seconds.
This is what shows up for me

Read through these links (I'm only posting findings which you may or may have not found yet) then see if anything else works after; post your findings: (also, sammyz might know the link on XDA to unbrick it)

Read the whole thread see if you can find related methods:

[DRIVERS] [UnBrick hoxl project start] QHSUSB_DLOAD - xda-developers

Standalone drivers:

Just FYI, I'm just posting findings, a shot in the dark since I'm no expert.
Hope it helps.

I've been successful with the process a few times and have used both a v5 and v6 bin.

I do remember sometime in April having to obtain files referenced in OP from different link. I will not be able to check file info I currently have until much later today. Ex. 2000 central standard time.

If i can identify file variance I will PM sammyz to adjust links if needed. If I remember correctly issue was files associated with flash tool link but not positive.
Sorry the time span ,but will review as soon as I can.

Had a few minutes here's comments that I hope can help. Links in OP appear to still be working with info needed.

http://androidforums.com/virgin-mobile-optimus-f3-all-things-root/779320-unbrick-vm-sprint-f3.html

Follow the information in order. Note the <B>README</B>comment for the flash tool.

Be sure you are using the version 3.8.1 LG drivers

Process is outlined in link from OP
LG Flash Tool - Free - no need B2B User/Pass - GSM-Forum

There is also a good walkthrough by user npolite
http://androidforums.com/virgin-mob.../779320-unbrick-vm-sprint-f3.html#post6316726

I would suggest LG driver link in OP not in the walkthru. I have only tested with version3.8.1

I have had success with this method using both Win7 and Win8. Have also used the V5 and V6 bin files.

After port is configured and you start the process you need to unplug your phone for about 5sec and then plug back in and the process should begin.

I did receive the Milkyway prompt/error but ignored and waited about 30seconds. Prompt box disappeared and process started.

After phone auto reboots you are pretty much done. The % complete may not be 100 and you may also recieve an error download fail message.

If you have a booting phone it was successful. I have never received a succesful prompt nor have I reached 100% for the process bar.

I hope this info helps those that are having issues.

One other comment. My phone is manuf in Korea. Not sure if that helps or not.

I've tried downloading different versions of drivers that were posted on this page, tried the LG recovery program, can't figure out a way to get out of QHSUS_DLOAD.

Just random idea came to me.. my sister has the same phone as me. Would is there anyway i would be able to copy the drivers in the Window32 files downloaded on my computer when installing her phone and use it some way to counter QUHSUS_DLOAD for my phone? Or create some kind of pathway?

Don't really know anything about program... ^seems like a legitimate idea to me... but what do i know

I don't know how you bricked your phone, but QHUSB_DLMODE means your phone is hardbricked. Does your phone even enter download mode? How did you brick?

Not sure, my phone was experience memory problems for a while... random apps would stop working like Alarmclock, camera, calender, ect. A couple days before the brick the phone started freezing multiple times a day and would turn off randomly.

I ended downloaded a firmware update and whatever updates were on the phone setting>updates. Deleted some apps i didn't use anymore like netflix and other just random downloaded apps. I also took my battery out and took out and put my SD card. Couple hours later I check my phone and its black, wont turn on or charge. I get the Green LED light when I hold in the factory reset keys but it goes out in like 5 second.
I bought it off ebay so I don't know if the warranty will work. I don't have proof of purchase, but the warranty info says that there is a 15 month grace period since the phone was actually manufactured. I called LG and they told me to send it in, but I wanted to try some stuff on my own before i paid shipping costs to see if I cant spark it back to life.

Never tried rooting it, never messed with the developer settings or w/e... just randomly crapped out on me.

Pretty sure it's defective or water damaged. Just send it in.
